Alice is top seed here again this week - Safiya Carrington, who entered with a WTA ranking no longer has one now - and Alicia Robinson is in the draw too.
R32: Alice GILLAN (GBR) [1] UNR/171 (CH:785) vs Audrey Ann BLAKELY (USA) UNR/685
R32: Alicia ROBINSON (GBR) UNR/1281 vs Pauline WUARIN (SUI) UNR/563=CH
Alicia is also playing doubles, but Alice is only playing singles, as she did last week.
Alice wins comfortably enough again. And yes, even though Alicia played doubles yesterday, she hasn't managed the singles today.
Alice's next opponent beat a local WC in the first round. Alice should be comfortable again.
R32: Alice GILLAN (GBR) [1] UNR/171 (CH:785) beat Audrey Ann BLAKELY (USA) UNR/685 6-1 6-2
R16: Alice GILLAN (GBR) [1] UNR/171 (CH:785) vs Tricia MAR (USA) UNR/736
Well, one thing to be said for these T&T W15s, and congratulations to the local tennis federation for getting them established, is the opportunity it has given for local players.
Breana Stampfli, born 1995, was a useful junior player - reached a JCH 313 in Sept 13 - but until the last two weeks had only ever played two professional tournaments before, in Spain in mid 2016, in both of which she did not reach the MD. She has regularly represented T&T in the Fed Cup, winning several matches here against lower ranked Caribbean/ LA countries, but good to see her winning MD matches here finally, having put out the Estonian 8th seed in the last round.
Carrington was born in 2001, so is only 17/18 and her CH of 793 is very similar to Alice's of 785. Good when we are back entirely to WTA rankings, players at this level will match up in a much clearer way.
