General football thread

Hey, Indy, I see The Spartans beat Dundee Utd at the weekend - nice start to league status!

I'd actually totally forgotten that the Scottish football season was starting again on Saturday until in the afternoon I was on my way to the local supermarket, close to Spartans ground. Walking in the same directions were some guys in tangerine shirts - ie. soon to be very unhappy Dundee United fans.

To be fair there is also a rather unhappy St Mirren fan, as we lost at Montrose. Then again we were awful in the league Cup groups last season before having our best league season in about 40 years.

I see Ryan Giggs has been found not guilty a year after his original trial after the CPS dropped charges and the Judge directed verdicts of not guilty.

So, on the basis we know no better about the whole case and can't judge someone on hearsay or personal views on them as people, we have to assume this is correct and indeed he is not guilty.

He resigned his job as Wales manager over this, and no doubt would have been sacked if he hadnt resigned - no fault of the Welsh FA of course, but he has lost a lot. Should that be recompensed in some way? Can it be? and by whom or how?

Life could be worse than being a St Mirren fan though - have a thought for the fans of the German team who played Bayern Munich in a pre season friendly this week and lost 27-0. Who needs Harry Kane ?!

As an aside and my comment re Ryan Giggs above, Im sort of expecting he will end up in Saudi or stick with Salford and moving them
Up the leagues - cant see anyone touching him in the English leagues other than Salford who he still owns.

I also see David Goodwillie is proving toxic still and he got sacked after one match playing for a junior Scottish club, Glasgow United. As well as his civil rape conviction , turns out he has 3 assault convictions in his past. Amazed anyone is giving him a chance to be honest

0-0 and a player sent off - not looking promising!

Off to Harrogate versus Forest Green this afternoon with my son and my dad. Hoping Luke Armstrong is back after his head was turned and then no decent offers came through , played that one wrong ! Hope we continue bright season start .

4-1 over Luton. Could have been a lot more. Hit the post 3 times. Going to be a long old season for Luton.

Come on the lionesses! One more match against Australia and then a World Cup Final - pity the lads cant emulate. Keep going - even when you aren't playing well you still seem to be able to win - sign of champions. (football or tennis!)

Great they got to the semi finals but been pretty uninspiring stuff given a very easy draw.

What would have been a harder draw when the stronger teams didn't play well enough?

Well exactly. The stronger teams didnt show up. Hence easy draw.
