General football thread

I heard some comments from a Bulgarian journalist and their manager effectively denying it ever happened or it was just a joke. Unfortunately certain countries - mainly Eastern European Inc Russia(also prominent in Spain and Italy) see racist behaviour as the norm and they ignore or turn a blind eye.

It needs leadership from the very top in these countries to stamp down on this, but unfortunately the national governments and UEFA done seem to want to intervene effectively as they may lose votes and money respectively.

Macclesfield in a mess. They have had financial problems for years, but it is coming to a head now.

Is anyone else as outraged as me by the complete gutter press that the BBC sports section has become, in relation to football. Every time a team goes through a bad patch, Phil McNulty in particular starts pushing and pushing for the manager to be sacked. It is disrespectful and puts pressure on everyone involved that isnt necessary. Today it is all about Silva of Everton facing the sack, the headline being "Silva faces the sack". Whether he is or not and whether he deserves it or not, this is really outrageous reporting, effectively pushing and pushing until they get their story. And then they will move onto the next manager, and the next one until they are happy.

Shame on the BBC for this. It would be much better to report that, yes, Silva is under pressure and the Board are considering options but leading with "Silva faces the sack" and "Silva to be sacked today" as they are is pure unadulterated gutter reporting

FIFA Club World Cup begins today, the Qatari champions are playing against Oceania Champions from New Caledonia.

The BBC are showing all matches and, of course, Liverpool are representing Europe.

What do folks think? It has passing interest but lets face it, the power is all in Europe and the European or South American champs will win the event. It is like having an American Football World Cup - The Dallas Cowboys playing the Amsterdam Tulips might sound interesting but in reality, there will only be one winner...

Not really able to judge if Stan Collymore is one of the best match summarisers on Radio, although I think he is good in that role.

More importantly, Mike Ingham was definitely one of the best if not the best Radio commentators and this book is definitely on my Xmas list, if the kids are listening

Liverpool should send their reserves they face much stiffer opposition next week in the Carabo cup at Villa Park!

Certainly preferable for Villa to be beaten by the Liverpool first team than their reserves / C team

This striker is on top of a lot of team's shopping list for the January transfer window.

Love the celebration when he scores.

This is such a feel good story. Footballers often get bad press so it is great to see a positive story.

Ben Foster, take a bow.

I am sure there are a few Liverpool fans that read this board so congratulations on becoming Club World Champions. Even Phil Wright might have a wry smile on his face this evening. wink

I don't want to jinx it as it's still not officially over the line, but it looks like this proposed takeover of Newcastle United is just about there - all the signs are pointing that way, and most sources can't see any real threat of the Premier League not passing it. A welcome bit of good news in these strage times.
