General football thread

I dont know it is a crazy season, really enjoyed watching the Villa youth last night. Unfortunately our three best 17/18 year olds were unavailable as with the first team. I am sure some of the lads who played will now be able to get loan moves to further their development.

If Villa have to play again against Spurs that would undermine the integrity of the Premier League. Personally I feel European Competition ie CL & Europa Cups should be suspended. However like TV productions I feel the risks associated with continuing to play games PL & Championship within the U.K. are worthwhile, gives many people structure to their week.

Well, if that pushes him closer to the exit, I'll take it, unfortunately nothing will change though, unless the likes of Fulham can start picking up points, and Ashley will have to act.

Sheff Utd, 2 points all season, 5/4 pre match faves and sure enough, that elusive first win, and they were well on top before the red.

Please keep him in place until the end of the month when we play you again.  After that, you can do what you want. wink

Christ, didn't realise we played you again so soon. Just had a look:

Arsenal, Leeds, Everton, Palace, Southampton, Chelsea, and Man Utd, and Wolves are our next 8 games, not too many winnable games there.

Don't worry, he'll probably be hanging around until late March when we are in the relegation zone and too late again like in 2016, and it'll be fully deserved.

We've had some shocking matches this season, too many to list, but this was the worst of the lot. Far worse than that Leeds drubbing, the Brighton 0-3 home defeat, the match when Fulham went down to 10. It's absolutely horrendous. Never disliked a manager more than, or felt more distant from the club, in my 27 years or so as a fan.

I feel your pain but no fans means no cabbages!

True. He's one of few managers who will be pretty pleased with the no fans situation - 2,000 or so travelling down tonight would have let him know exactly what they thought. An absolute horror show.

This short 90 second clip from the Daily Mail's Newcastle (or North East) reporter a couple of weeks ago sums up the situation well about the fans. This won't end well.

I see Auckland City have withdrawn from next months FIFA world club cup. Due to Covid restrictions at home etc. Sensible.

Not a big event but also not a necessary event right now.

I don't remember it, but we did manage 1 shot on target at some point in the 90 mins, to be fair, Oakland.

Another absolutely pathetic performance, although I guess, despite them being very vulnerable at home this season, Arsenal away isn't going to define your season, but then when you fail to beat Fulham at home (who were still dominating when down to 10 men), and put in one of the worst performances you'll ever see in losing to Sheff Utd, every match becomes that bit bigger.

2 sides below us won this weekend, but as long as there is still a bit of daylight to 17th, he'll be as safe as houses. There are still takeover murmurs rumbling in the background, positive noises, arbitrations and what not, so it could still be an OK future, and we'd need to be in the top flight for that, but I'm kind of half hoping these sides below us keep winning to put more pressure on, because if it doesn't happen, then 3 or 4 more years of Ashley/Bruce, playing the worst football you'll see, hoping/praying for 3 worse sides, and barely existing - they'll totally deserve to be in the Championship.

We're still 2 points clear over seagulls Brighton, and have a game in hand, but we are 9/4 across the board to go down, they are like 6/1 or 13/2, and that says a lot about the current situation. We'll probably fluke, sorry grind out, another win from somewhere in the next 4 or 5 matches, and it'll be back to 'what a great job Stevie Bruce is doing up there. What do the fans expect?'

In some ways, it is quite refreshing seeing the stats finally being reflected in the score lines, because this isn't just a bad 9 or 10 match spell, this has been coming for a very long time, and the manner in which we were stealing points just wasn't, and isn't, sustainable.

We have a massive game at home to Fulham next Wednesday. Win that and I'm sure we will be safe but only one home win in 2020 (and that was a last minute winner against Arsenal!)

Really enjoyable match between Man City and Villa earlier. End to end, and a nice tempo. Bit of a controversial goal to open the scoring for City - I'd have liked to see those type of goals ruled out for offside, but apparently the letter of the law.

Weird watching this Fulham vs Man Utd match and not really knowing what outcome I want.

Great game Villa v Citeh The poor decision in context a product of relentless City attacks, inevitably refereeing decisions will be made & if the ball is always in & around your box eventually they go against you. The quality of touch of City players showed, makes time when for the player with the ball when required & if moved quickly takes it away from the defender.

Great defensive performance by Villa but weaker first touch helped city press & recycle the ball all a product of years of massive investment from the UAE.

Despite all this Dean Smiths comment to the ref that got him a the first yellow the type of comment I expect from behind the goal at Hamlet not from the managers bench. Quality sense of humour given the circumstances
