General football thread

Trying very hard to get disciplined for wearing my Villa shirt to work. Presently only feels worthwhile as opposed to sad for top 6 sorry I mean BIG 6 victories. It would be an honour to have it recorded on my HR record 2 down 4 to go. I never envisaged looking forward to playing Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea this season.

Well done Scotland, congrats to Indy, FW and other Scots on this board!

Hard for Northern Ireland, sadly, but England, Wales and Scotland go - Stevie Clarke proven a good choice as manager for the Scots!

Aye, the European Nations League has been a wonderful invention.

Got gubbed  home and away in the traditional qualifying group by Belgium and Russia, oh and in Kazakhstan, but we always had our fallback backdoor entry method of reaching the Euro Finals, I mean cunningly planned and executed play-off campaign. Don't even have to win games in the play-offs in regulation time - just keep scoring penalties. In fact so much do we love such shoot-outs we let the Serbs have a last gasp equaliser in normal time, with full confidence that all would end up well - aye, right.

Yay, we're on our way to err Hampden, with a stop-off at Wembley, before our progression to the knock-out phase. We have a dream - I believe the final is due to be at Wembley too

Marvellous opportunity to introduce the nation to the skills of the floppy haired prince, just my view but is it not painfully apparent that technically he looks a level apart from most of his England colleagues in his capacity to control the ball, see and deliver a perfectly weighted pass. I wouldnt suggest you listen to the whole podcast but the introduction (always good) first few minutes of Arsenal TV although the language is very florid still has me chuckling. Dont listen if easily offended by industrial language.

I see pay per view has gone and we are back to free to air matches at odd times.
The two teams with no fit defenders kick off at 7pm on Sunday.

Apparently we have not beaten Villa away since 1910 so looks like our winless streak will continue. Should have won last year mind when Mooy got sent off when we were cruising.

Well Grealish will be knackered McGinn not yet sober, Martinez and Luis jet lagged. Cant say I am too optimistic regardless looking forward to some premier league football and keeping my hand in my pocket!

Well in real time I thought it was but he did get ball first. About time we got a bit of luck though and we need points more than Villa

Hey Ho, not entirely surprised by the outcome lots of attacking but sloppy at critical times consistent with not just the physical but also mental fatigue from the international break As predicted McGinn was half cut kept passing to Brighton. Grealish cream crackered. Have to be honest great to have players playing so well they have been selected or have become critical parts of their respective international set ups. Nov 2018 we were miles away from (indeed beyond my wildest expectations of) where we are in Nov 20 and good to see another Villa fan doing well in management!

Crowds might be back for elite football - up to 4k per game.

The timing is rather peculiar. If it can be done now ( or soon ), and I'm certainly not saying it can't, still in the midst of the second wave, then it could have been done in September. Though, I guess high tier ateas are likely to be excluded or much more limited.
