Good luck to him, it all seems amicable and good to see a new British manager given a chance at the top level. He couldnt turn it down really, his salary would be much higher (seven figures?) than he has had before and he may not get another chance to go into the EPL. Dan Ashcroft is technical director at BHA, so he has a good team to work with and I think will do well.

Great idea with play offs imminent and of course the managerial merry go round which has just started spinning.

Will the Cowleys be appointed to WBA or will they plump for the easy option that Brighton have just jettisoned?

Are the Cowleys being linked with those jobs? I think they have done a great job at Lincoln and a step into the Championship would make sense. I hope Bielsa stays at Leeds but if he goes, the Cowley's would have been my choice for Leeds. But Swansea would be a reasonable fit. However, Boro have a job going and they are a team that like to play football, hence Pulis never being a good fit. Personally, I would like that as an option...

So who are we hoping for in the 3 big games over the weekend?

I know we have Villa fan(s) on here, but I am hoping Derby come through, along with Charlton and Tranmere, but if I was putting a promotion treble on then I'd go for Villa, Sunderland and Tranmere. Charlton vs Sunderland has got a very big feel to it as well, with both being former PL clubs, they'll sell a lot of tickets, and of course it being 21 years on from that last Wembley playoff final epic. I think that match will take priority for me on the Sunday, with French Open on in the background.

There is of course the Scottish Premiership play-off too and I certainly have a wish for that.

Saints please !!!!!!!!!!!

The first leg was tonight. Dundee United 0 St Mirren 0, a rather frenetic affair in front of 11,000 spectators. The return leg is on Sunday afternoon so no rest for the wicked or the Saints.

Saints are now unbeaten in 7 having woken up belatedly or rather some decent January additions have been gelling much more. Been playing decently for a team facing a for them relegation play-off.

I'm up in Aviemore this week doing some walking in between the showers. Back in Edinburgh on Saturday but I suspect I've left it too late to get a ticket for Paisley on Sunday. Will check out for sure tomorrow.

To be honest, I've read their history and they have actually spent a lot of their early years in the 4th tier. I just remember growing up in the 90's and they were in the 2nd tier for quite a long time and had some heroic cup runs including the League Cup final and I remember Newcastle putting them out of the FA Cup a couple of times in the latter stages. Big stadium as well and although they will likely lose a lot of their fan base to the Merseyside big 2, there is a big catchment area in the Wirral, so a fair bit potential if they get it right.

I agree Norwood is stand out but great to see the progress they have made as a club with committed and informed leadership off the field and in the boardroom. I dont know what sort of debt they are carrying but they have a fanbase large enough to continue to be competitive in league 1.

The league cup run finished in an epic semi. Villa produced one of their finest ever Villa its the hope that kills you moments 3-0 down at Prenton Park we scored in the final minutes to bring it back to 3-1. Set up an epic second leg and Mark Bosnichs (likely pharmacologically enhanced for all the wrong reasons) finest moment in Claret and Blue.

Remarkable final featuring Utds own coke machine Lee Sharpe in which Cantona was shackled by arguably the greatest functioning alcoholic to play football, and a five-man midfield containing Graham Fenton (who? He now manages the best team on Tyneside) with the winning goal earnt by a guy who later died as a result of being tasered by police (RIP Dalian Atkinson)
