Not a bad draw for Tara, big favourite in that match for 3 points and then (assuming she comes through), potential FQR doesn't seem too bad either.

Judging by the Q draw, looks as if there's one main draw withdrawal. I'd imagine Ahn will be most likely after retiring from both matches yesterday.

Not as much a walk in the park, as I thought it was going to be.

Q1: Tara MOORE (GBR) [2] 473 defeated Mami HASEGAWA (JPN) (WC) UNR/1928 (CH 1127) 7-5 6-3

FQR: Tara MOORE (GBR) [2] 473 vs Yuuki TANAKA (JPN) [7] 564 (CH: 308 in Sep 2017)

Spoken too soon. All the momentum now is with the Japanese - 4 points to 16
*0-4

Gets a break back *1-4

*3-4

More breaks and it went to a MTB. In the MTB Tara went from 6-3 to 6-8, and had a MP herself at 10-9, but in the end it was not to be

FQR: Tara MOORE (GBR) [2] 473 lost to Yuuki TANAKA (JPN) [7] 564 (CH: 308 in Sep 2017) 6-2 5-7 10-12

Without that Sunderland run the other week, this would have been a normal Tara 2019 result, but that Ponchet comeback and win over Dodin did restore a bit of hope. She'll get 3 points for her Q1 win which I suppose is better than a typical case of coming through 2 rounds of Qs at W25 level and losing in R1 in the main draw, but if she's ever wanting to get back to near where she was, you really need to be beating a lower ranked 29 year old who has never been inside the top 300. A run here would have helped boost her ranking for Manchester W100, which tends to be the weaker of the 3 ITF events.

Surprised the main draw isn't out yet. The Japanese events tend to be always be out by the time I get up around 8am and the Korean (3 Brits), Singapore (Emily) and Chinese ITF draws have all been out a while. Really interested to see who Heather and Katy get in particular.

Edit - it is out now. Diyas seems to have withdrawn as Heather is the top seed, but Katy isn't there...

There was a LL, but with the ITFs it's a free draw rather than one from the top 2 ranked players and Tara has missed out. Sakatsume who Heather beat in R1 last week is the LL and she actually faces Naomi in R1, so that's a decent draw. Can't see anyone who would really trouble Hev in the early stages, so hopefully she can get those 2 or 3 wins and and secure her Wimbledon direct entry.

Hev not playing doubles which IMO is good.

I thought Diyas might withdraw having reached the final the past two weeks and having secured a Wimbledon entry.

I was actually thinking that too when I mentioned Ahn yesterday. Circa 150 points for 2 weeks work is a good return. Wimbledon entry secured as you say, so main job done and she sneaked into the FO draw directly (was the initial last entrant), so she can either go home for some rest, or to Europe earlier to practise for the clay.

Edit - Ahn hasn't withdrawn.

Naomi is dead lucky to be facing a player ranked 671 in the first round of a W60, promising junior though she might be!

R32: Heather WATSON (GBR) [1] 110 vs Haruka KAJI (JPN) 315 (CH:283 Jan 18)
R32: Naomi BROADY (GBR) 372 vs Himeno SAKATSUME (JPN) [LL] 671 (CH:633 May 19) 17 yrs (JCH:113 June 18)

Slice and keeping the ball low, swinging serves is what this surface is all about, Heather should do well again this week. The Japanese players play that sort of game though so are dangerous when in form. Hopefully Naomi will have learnt from last week and get a couple of wins this week, but I hope Heather will at least get to a semi again
