Week 19 - ITF (W25) - Obidos, Portugal - Carpet

Lovely to see that Mandy has made the q draw here, alongside Vic Allen. There are actually two byes. Vic is seeded herself but could get Victoria Muntean, the 2nd q seed in the FQR, unfortunately. Mandy plays the q4 seed first up. Victoria's QR1 component was nowhere on the entry list and seems to have got in just by turning up.

QR1: Victoria ALLEN (GBR) [q10] 676 vs Saisha KHANNA (IND) UNR/UNR Born 2002

QR1: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) UNR/47 vs Laura SCHAEDER (GER) [q4] 617 (CH:277)

Emily WS looks like she has joined Eden and Beth in the MD.

I do not understand this new system. How is Vic seeded but not Mandy? or is Vic ranked properly (WTA) rather than by just ITF (which I think the 47 refers to)

Victoria is seeded ahead of Amanda as she has a WTA ranking, Amanda doesn't.

Yes FW, it may be a bit confusing at times, but if the player's entry is based on their WTA ranking, I only list that ranking; if it is based on their ITF ranking, then I will list both rankings, as in Mandy's case.

As expected, Vic and Amanda progress very easily to the FQR. Amanda's potential opponent is still playing. The FQR matches are scheduled at not before 1pm for Vic and not before 2.30pm for Amanda.

QR1: Victoria ALLEN (GBR) [q10] 676 defeated Saisha KHANNA (IND) UNR/UNR Born 2002 6-0 6-0
QR1: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) UNR/47 defeated Laura SCHAEDER (GER) [q4] 617 (CH:277) 6-2 6-0

FQR: Victoria ALLEN (GBR) [q10] 673 vs Victoria MUNTEAN (FRA) [q2] 589 (CH: 435 in June 2016)
FQR: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) UNR/47 vs

That actually looks an impressive scoreline for Mandy, she would have been expected to win, but perhaps not by that margin.

BetFred had it 1.3 vs 3.2 which equates to 1/3 vs 9/4, so it wasn't a typical 1/12 vs 6/1 (or worse), no hoper mismatch.

I was kind of expecting that type of scoreline for Vic given Khanna's recent results (numerous 0-6, 1-6 sets) and it'll be interesting to see how she gets on with Muntean later. Good luck to both Brits.

Shalimova lost relatively easily to EWS in early April.

Neither going too well currently. Amanda is *1-5 and Vic had recovered to break back last I saw, but the opponent is now serving for the set, 4-5*

Vic has broken back, *5-5 (3 breaks each).

And now MTB time.

5-7 7-6(4)

Successive DFs put her a mini break down but she pulled it round well.
