Heather, Naomi and Katy D are down to be in the MD. Will be very surprised though if Katy hotfoots it to Japan after her brilliant win in Spain today.

Judging by the Q draw, it looks like there has been one withdrawal from the main draw.

It's a difficult one, logistics and turnaround isn't ideal, so it'll be no surprise if she does sack it off and there's certainly less pressure with those 80 points already in the bag, but as I said on the Spain thread, unless they hand out 2 MDWCs to higher ranked Japanese players, Katy should be a seed here and with points coming off, the more points she can get in the coming weeks will help with getting into grass events and keeping her ahead of Naiktha and Jodie in the Wimbledon pecking order.

She is scheduled to play the Japan W60 the following week, so worst case scenario, she could get there, lose early, but then focus on the following event, and if she is a seed and gets a kind draw to the QFs, then that could be the 15 points for one of the events coming off taken care of. I'd probably think she'll withdraw as well.

Hopefully Tara can come through there to join the others.

They're playing both q rounds tomorrow. It's an extremely long flight, with 8 hours time difference. She wouldn't even get there until Tues morning, and then she'd be knackered and jetlagged. She's not going to this one Ace, even if she plays the following week.

Fair enough, will give her time to celebrate, plus I think she has a Korean W25 the week after, so she wouldn't be going all that way for one event to potentially lose in R1.

Definitely looks like that. Fair play to her, not hanging about and celebrating a huge triumph. Assuming she is in the draw, hopefully she gets a generous R1 to ease her way into it (not sure if one Naomi would be considered that...)

Katy is in the draw and plays Maddison Inglis, who took out second seed Kumkhum in last week's 80K before losing to eventual winner Diyas in the semi-final in three. Naomi gets Namigata, who she has beaten 3 times, the last two fairly easily. Heather gets a qualifier.

Katy is also in the doubles partnering the American, Loeb. They play the other Brit/American combo here in the form of Tara and Bektas. Heather and Naomi join forces, and are top seeds, and play a Japanese pair. Naomi is defending the title here which she won with Asia Muhammad last year.

I see the surface is outdoor carpet and from past years they actually play on artificial grass, which has a Sand base. Tends to bounce lower than real grass but also slower and slippier. Not sure whether it will suit naomi too much , but heather with her lower centre of gravity and volleys might like it.
