I think this is to do with tennis though? ie this all effectively about whether Wimbledon/LTA should continue to ban Russian players from Wimbledon and other events this year...
According to Simon Briggs in the Telegraph Denise Parnell is expected to become Wimbledon's first female referee in 2024. She was a player from the 1980's.

I used to watch Denise Parnell at Ilkley each year back in the early 80's, she played the Open event there. She is from somewhere like Blackburn if I recall, Lancashire was her county, I am pretty sure.
Won't count that against her though.
Edit - Mancunian it seems

So, mens doubles will be 3 sets from this year - not sure if the final will be 5 sets or not?
Probably had to come and cant say I am too disappointed, I would like to think the final will be 5 sets though, but probably will be 3 sets throughout
Not sure quite where but it was mentioned on the forum some weeks ago I would guess that it will be best of 3 sets throughout, including the final, which is what I would prefer.

Must have missed it! I think it will probably be 3 sets throughout as they didnt call out a 5 set final etc. I cant remember if mixed is now a MTB final set or 3 full sets, but personally think using a MTB for mixed could be the way forwards for that event as well - if it is already, of course, good call guys.
I said above I would like 5 set final, on reflection I dont mind and as they never use 5 sets anywhere else now, it would not particularly add any value - so 3 sets would make sense to me
Not sure it's been mentioned (and should it be here?) but the Russian/Belorussian ban has been lifted
Has it? Andy was speculating it might be. Has it been confirmed?
No official announcement yet but it has been widely trailed in the media so little reason to doubt it.
The Beeb is now reporting that the ban has indeed been lifted, provided players agree not to support either the Russian or the Belarusian state & its regime or leaders & also that they receive no funding from that source, including sponsorship from companies operated or controlled by either. The decision applies to tournaments such as Queen's & Eastbourne.
Got an email today, just managed to bag two tickets to the middle Sunday on Court 1. Normally go to qualifying but not sure if I will make it this year as starting a new job in a few weeks and might not be able to get a day off. So pretty chuffed I managed to get some tickets.
Clearly the ATP and WTA and ITF (the mentioned international stakeholders) have been involved in negotiating that position, so must agree to that - it would in fact make sense to apply those requirements generally to the tour I would say, but presumably there will now not be any pushback from the respective tours. This wouldnt have been released without all parties being aligned on this.
Statement in response to announcement made Friday
We are pleased that all players will have an opportunity to compete at Wimbledon and LTA events this summer. It has taken a collaborative effort across the sport to arrive at a workable solution which protects the fairness of the game. This remains an extremely difficult situation and we would like to thank Wimbledon and the LTA for their efforts in reaching this outcome, while reiterating our unequivocal condemnation of Russias war on Ukraine.

It's a bit of a cop-out it seems to me, who's going to police those requirements? Unfortunately, it's a nasty world atm, and the risks are significant. I guess we're stuck with the status quo, whether we like it or not.

That should certainly be the case. But with the example of the uniltateral arrogance of last year ... ?
Edit : ha, now read your following post. So it does seem that these stakeholders are fine with the whole thing for now.
