I assume the ATP would have checked with the US Open to see if they have any intentions to do the same. Otherwise theyd have to stick to the precedent they set for Wimbledon.
LEquipe have apparently got hold hold of a letter from the LTA to the ATPs head Gaudenzi explaining why they were left with no choice regarding the bans .
Putting the blame on the UK government and saying they deeply regretted having to put the bans in place .
On the face of it , it would seem harsh to strip grass court events of all their points if they didnt have a choice in the matter .
I think it would be much fairer to protect last years points for those banned and reduce the ranking points on offer in 2022.
This seems to be a sensible compromise solution that still allows the ATP and WTA to say they have taken action but doesnt turn the grass court season into a series of exhibition events .
I think British tennis is in serious trouble if there are no ranking points for the grass courts tournaments, They will increase the size of the draws in Germany and Holland to cater for players now hoping to play there instead of England. . They won't want to play here in exhibitions. Additionally sponsors will drop tennis and sponsor growing womens sports such as football and rugby union. There's also the more established womens cricket.
Go on to Tennis Forum and posting on No points for British tournaments and read Tara Moores posting.
Do you have a link - I find tennis forum imponderable to navigate and cant find this thread you refer to!
thanks!
If you just google tara moore twitter you can read her tweet. Re the WTA players council, which have elections every 2 years , Johanna Konta was on the council. Not sure whether she has resigned with having retired,.
Another plot twist in this saga . Donna Vekic who I think is on the WTA players council has replied to Tara Moores tweet by accusing her of spreading false information so hard to know at this point exactly what that player council has agreed to do .

Donna Vekic is on the WTA player council.Wikipedia gives the 2021 Council. But the players seem in general representing a ranking they are not in. e,g. 1-20 Donna, Sloane Stephens. Krunic who is not in the top 100 and Mladenovic on the fringes. Jo is given. About the only one in the correct group is Christina McHale. Tara Moore has been vocal in the past on player issues.

The AELTC/LTA didn't have to get involved, if the government were determined to ban Russian players then let them assume full responsibility for the decision.

Good point and if the government had put that ban in place it would be hard for the ATP and WTA to punish Wimbledon for something totally out of their control.
It would be not as such be about punishing the UK grass tournaments as about not punishing the Russian and Belarusian players, who have not been individually sanctioned by the ATP or WTA so logically should have as much chance as anyone else of earning ATP and WTA ranking points in the here and now ( as distinct to retaining points from last year however big or small ) and to an extent it would be irrelevant that it really eminates from the UK government. Folk may or may not agree with any ranking points ban but to me there is certainly a large degree of logic if that is how it ends up for tournaments not providing that level playing field.
And yes a pretty awful mess for the British grass court season, if maybe not as much ultimately for Wimbledon as some seem to think.
Our unilateral actions will have relatively minescule effect on the big picture, potentially quite unnecessarily involving and detrimentally effecting our own tennis tournaments with no help to the Ukrainian people or real detrimental effect to Russians and Belarusians, including their tennis players, if as could have been foreseen what they end up being banned from are non ranking points tournaments when again as could have been foreseen the actions have not been followed by others
But it will have messed up the British grass court tennis season a very unfine mess Johnson & co's posturing will have delivered and wholly avoidable. So yes point taken that it is no doubt really coming from them more than Wimbledon and the LTA but net net these are ultimately tournaments not allowing some ATP and WTA members ranking points, when they have not been individually sanctioned by these tennis bodies ( whether folk think they should have been or not ) so again a lot of logic in removing all ranking points from them.
Would I like it? - certainly not. Would I understand it? - absolutely.
