Just Dan here this year as Cam withdrew a day or so ago*. A successful tournament for GB last year so hopefully bodes well for this year.

Q1: (q2) Daniel Evans WR 86 (CH = 41 in 2017) vs Lorenzo Giustino (ITA) WR 164 (= CH)

They have never met before (according to the ATP website)

*is now in the UK again, hopefully he is back for Madrid.

In the light of Dan's exit from the qualies, am amending the subject to indicate doubles only to spare Jaggy's sensitive feelings.  wink

and possibly plays the Frat Man in FQR. Dan has beaten him 4 times out of 4 and all in straight sets. If he has spent the week with Fed, then Fratangelo should little to worry about if they play!

Dan went a break up in the second game of the second set, but was broken back.  He also had match points in the ninth game, but couldn't quite capitalise on them.

Phew. Things started going a bit pear shaped when I started watching, just before he got broken in the 2nd set. Thought I had jinxed him !!! But his delightful play got him through in the end. The other guy was no slouch though.

I seem to recall that he's not overfond of the surface, but maybe he's already starting to benefit from his few days in Switzerland practising with Roger the Lodger...
