Wish it wasn't at the expense of Surbiton though cry

Im sure theres space somehow for an event in Surbiton on grass - maybe an ITF 25 event could be held at some stage In the future? two years ago we had a couple of post Wimbledon grass ITF events, one was Roehampton , maybe Nottingham was the other?

Emma is back in London. Reported that she was met by her father at the airport and was visibly upset. Wishing her all the very best for a swift and successful return to the tour.

Vladimir Platenik (SVK) to be Emma's next coach - initially, for a trial period, starting with Indian Wells.

This is a great move for Emma as this guy has been in and around tennis coaching various top players for years. I mentioned last Wimbledon before Emma played Lulu sun when Platenik was coaching lulu sun that these top coaches must have thought there was something to work with in lulu sun as she was Previously working with Olivier Junehomme Who is another top well established coach and the director at Justin Henin academy.
Does anybody know if Platenik Left Lulu Sun to work with Emma Or had Lulu already stopped working with Platenik?

AFAIK Lulu had just dropped him.

From what I was reading yesterday, when Cavaday stood down, Emma's dad had asked Platenik if he could recommend a coach which he did. Then when Lulu ended working with him he contacted Emma's dad asking if they had found someone as he knew they had had an interest in working with him going back several years.

Sorry but it such a disappointing thing to basically reduce the number of top level tournament outside of London and the South East. Fine if you live in London I guess but sad that people outside the area now either have to spend a fortune getting to London and probably staying there or basically watching on the TV. You can't replace live sport in my opinion as an experience.

I guess if we want to see tennis remain a minority white middle class sport then downgrading tournaments outside of London to have yet another expensive tournament in London is just the way to go. But then who cares about the rest of the country.

 I agree, HarryGem

I think it's dreadful, Rich2310

They've shut Surbiton because of the new Queens format (so the email from the LTA tells me)

So a wonderful event, that was open to all, relatively cheap, very accessible, great atmosphere, is now gone, to make place for a stuffy, expensive, up itself event, that barely anyone can afford, has no club involvement (thoroughly annoys the members that I know), and will showcase a couple of players, who already havea  good shopwindow to display their tennis, at the expense of a far larger number

I still like the idea of the women coming to play at Queens. But I certainly wish that Surbiton was still going. They should have both events.
