Week 17 - ATP 500 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, Barcelona, Spain (Clay)

QR1: Marcel Granollers (ESP) WR 107 (CH =19 in 2012) vs (q8) Daniel Evans WR 89 (CH = 41 in 2017)

H2H = 0-2 in 3 setters in 2017(Sydney) and 2018 (Nottingham)

Winner plays Jarry (q5) or a qWC. Top seed in qualifying is Schwartzman (apparently did not sign into the MD in time).

Cam is in the main draw.

Sadly for me, a combination of work reasons, finance, toothache and a dodgy weather forecast have meant that I have cancelled my trip to Barcelona. Hope Evo can perform there as he did 2 years ago and at least make it through to the MD to join Cam.

That's a shame Bob, I hope everything sorts itself out soon.

Dan has just started.

The main reason for not going is that I am back off to Brazil this week.  Gutted really as I enjoy watching Dan play live and it would have been my first chance to meet/watch Cam too.

 There will be other times, I'm sure! But Dan might've been able to use your in person support today as he is an early break down. Good for him for aiming high but surely would've made in the MD in Hungary as it's a 250? Guess it makes sense though because he will be going for Madrid or Estorill next.

Evo was down a double break at 1-4* but has started his comeback. Now at 3-4*.

L16:  Marcel Granollers & Marc López (ESP/ESP) CR 61 (24+37) vs Raven Klaasen (RSA) & Joe Salisbury CR 36 (14+21)

L16:  Ivan Dodig & Edouard Roger-Vasselin (CRO/FRA) CR 54 (31+23) vs (2) Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares (BRA) CR 17 (8+9)

Jamie & Bruno beat Dodig & ERV in three sets (13-11 in the MTB) in the last 16 in Monte-Carlo earlier this week.  Let's hope that's a good omen.

Dan lost the first set 3-6, has a break in the 2nd but is fighting to keep it (went to a few deuces) and as I typed that, he was broken. 2-2 in set two.

Good work from Dan. A win here would be impressive against an experienced Spanish opponent. Go Dan!

5-3 for granollers , even if he loses for Dan this is a useful first clay match of the season.

Not to be as Granollers takes it 7-5 in the third. Great fight though from Evo. I think he had saved at least 4 MPs before that.
