Week 16 - ITF (W15) - Tabarka, Tunisia - Clay

Mandy is unranked this week, and draw not too bad for it. Only singles this time, no doubles as well.

R32: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) UNR/91 vs Sara LANCA (POR) 795/1228 (CH:794 Dec 18)

Lanca has a WTA ranking of 795 and an ITF ranking of 1,228.
Her WTA ranking is courtesy of WCs into Portuguese tournaments, and the only win from those WCs came a year ago in Obidos in week 15 2018 when she beat Aleksandrina Naydenova who was playing her first tournament for 6 months. Out of 18 15K tournaments in the last year she has only one main draw win, last September, and this is her 7th 15K tournament this year, all in Tunisia and all the previous 6 tournaments ending in a R32 loss.

Mandy has won comfortably enough. In fact in the first set she was *4-0 up and Lanca had won only 2 points in those games and Mandy maybe got a bit complacent as she then dropped her serve twice (and her first serve stats were poor in the set, only 40% in and 50% won). But she tightened up again 2nd set, in which Lanca won just 6 points. Potential opponents only play tomorrow, so her next match will be Thurs .

R32: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) UNR/91 beat Sara LANCA (POR) 795/1228 (CH:794 Dec 18) 6-2 6-0

Mandy plays next a bit later this morning. This match will be tougher, but I'd still expect Mandy to be favourite.

R16: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) UNR/91 vs Alexandra DAMASCHIN (ROU) [6] 727/69 (CH:510 Nov 09)

Not much tougher it seems. Mandy wins 2 & 0 - and those two lost games were on her own serve.

OER live rankings already show Mandy on 262 points and ranked 73 (one behind Emma who has the same number of points)

Next up Mandy will play the 4th seed, Marie Temin, who had an easy win today over an unranked qualifier, despite being broken her last two service games... Last week Temin reached the final where she lost to Ana LANTIGUA DE LA NUEZ, who is the person that put out Mandy in the SF 3-6 3-6, whilst Temin lost in the F 4-6 4-6. So the match between Mandy and Temin could be close, with the winner then quite likely to meet de la Nuez again in the SF. De la Nuez put out Hoste Ferrer, the 2nd seed, in the first round, whom Mandy also beat last week.

QF: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) UNR/91 vs Marie TEMIN (FRA) [4] 698/307 (CH:568 Oct 17)

Amanda finally got a break at 4-3 but was broken straight back in the next game. She gets another break to *6-5 and this time holds it to 15, to take the first set after 1hr and 11 mins

Meanwhile Lantigua de la Nuez is a set and a break down.

Wow, that was a very tight set indeed, and a great last couple of games by Mandy at the end. This match is indeed proving as tight as it seemed it might be going on Temin's recent results.
Yes, and maybe Lantigua de la Nuez is running out of steam now, or perhaps picked up a niggle after her performances the last several weeks, since on looking this is now her 4th week in a row in Tabarka, so could well be. Regardless, neither of these two players would mind not facing her in the next round...

A very good win for Mandy over an opponent that has played well recently. An over 2 hr match in which the 2nd set remained closer than it looked - Mandy saved 3 BPs in the final game. And Lantigua de la Nuez did indeed go out, so it is Silvia Njiric up next, who like Mandy is also trying to get back onto the WTA ladder.

QF: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) UNR/91 vs Marie TEMIN (FRA) [4] 698/307 (CH:568 Oct 17) 7-5 6-2

SF: Amanda CARRERAS (GBR) UNR/91 vs Silvia NJIRIC (CRO) UNR/83 (CH:370 May 15)

Mandy underway now but hasn't started well. Njiric is taking her serve apart at the moment and she is *0-4 down.
