Interesting to see Bains is now British

Also Blu Baker using his Junior ranking to make main draw in Columbia (Strange to think my son played both him and Jack Draper in red ball days!!)

Good to see Dan has entered into some clay events at tour level, presumably he is in qualies in Barcelona. Hopefully we will then see him pop up at some other clay events.

Are we all definitely confident that Bains is British now - the ITF site seems to be the only place showing it, WTA is still Aussie and social media is still v quiet. I also would typically expect some comment from one of the good tennis writers on twitter (Dickson, Briggs, Fraser, Law, Bellshaw) but nothing forthcoming there at all?

Yes.  Dan is in qualies and Cam is in the MD.

Entry list here.

The WTA site is rarely that quick off the mark with anything that might actually be of interest.

I think Dan is displaying confidence by playing some tour level dirt tournaments this spring. If all he cared about was ranking points, a trip to Korea or Mexico to play on hard court challengers would have made far more sense. Dan needs a bigger stage, and exhausting journeys to far flung places to play in front of meager spectators for meager rewards  just don't inspire him. I don't think he'll win loads of matches on clay, but he'll stay close to home and fresh for the grass court season.

I think he'll make the cut for most ATP grass events apart from Queens.  Will they give him a wild card? I hope they do. Does anyone care to guess what the press coverage might be?

i hope he plays Surbiton, but that is just because Surbiton is just a bike ride away from my place.

My memory maybe wrong but didn't queens give Dan a WC last season or was that qualies ? Anyway he deserves one.

Yes Queens gave Dan a MD WC last year. He lost to Mannarino in R1 in 3 sets. Then Wimbledon didn't give him any sort of WC at all so off he went to the WC play-offs to play for a Q WC.

Can't imagine that he wouldn't get a Queens MD WC again this year if needed.

And he'll save Wimby any onerous considerations by his ranking.

Cool , in which case queens will 100 percent give Dan a wild card this year and cam if it's a high quality cut.

Hi Seagull, can I ask a question? I wondered if you looked at both alt lists or just the ITF reserved alt list as I notice you no longer include players high up in the alt list but do include players relatively high in the ITF reserved alt list. For example, for Uzbekistan 25K you have put (Raducanu) but she's only currently 44th in the alt list. But you haven't included Tara, Alicia, Freya, Emily WS and Sam who all have this as priority 1 and are higher in the alt list than Emma. Emma is currently 28th in the ITF reserved alt list, but she doesn't stand a chance of getting into an ITF reserved place in the main draw from that far down.

Yes, I wish they'd put the alt lists the other way round, since the ITF alt list, except for the first few, is really worthless, whilst to get to the 'real' alt list, you have to scroll down endlessly. I note that by the time of the event, the ITF alt list is also simply dropped, and it's just the normal alt list that is left.
