Some suprise MD wildcards

So, looks like Ella, Victoria, Sasha and Alice got the MDWCs, leaving plenty of bigger names in the quals.

Section 1
Jodie obviously the top seed and will have French opposition, assuming she gets past young Amelia, possibly the 14th seed.

Section 2
Headed up Bektas, who was in Japan as late as Thursday. Could be in line to face Freya if both come through

Section 3
Features the older Pitak, but doubt we'll get much joy there

Section 4 - No GB interest

Section 5
Guaranteed a FQR with Sam playing Emily M, but winner will likely face Paar/Andrei, who had France 60k QF and gave Dart a good match, in the FQR, so will be up against it

Section 6 - No GB interest

Section 7
3 GB entries including Tara and Laura, only 15th seed Morderger can stop us getting a main draw entrant

Section 8
3 GBs, headed by Alicia B, and only 11th sed M Noel can stop us getting a qualifier

You'd like to think we'd get at least 2 qualifiers there, hopefully 3.

The either 3 counters or 10 points for a WTA ranking system, with a point just for taking part in MD R1 even by WC, is a pretty debatable one.

But it will be a 3rd counter for Victoria Allen if she has a MD WC and plays. That would take us to 24 WTA ranked players.

Yes, it looks like the WCs have gone to those that played in the Bolton premier tour event - Ella, Alice, Victoria and Sasha. That's fair enough. They could all do with a boost, and it will be good to have one more WTA counter, and with luck for all the more lowly ranked WTA women it will start to get easier to get into 25ks in the coming month(s).

Jodie doesn't need one and can get into the MD on her own steam. Tara vs Laura, if they play may be interesting.

Looks like they are streaming a couple of courts. Great that they are doing that, but maybe slightly random court choices. We can see Alicia vs Holly, which could be interesting following Holly's decent effort at Glasgow and as well as Lilly's match at the same time. Then a couple of matches with no GB interest.

Women's matches starting to get underway. Holly was only 7/2 pre match and has made a fast start vs Alicia. 2-0* (or whichever way you prefer)

Strange one this. Short term, you'd think Alicia would have more chance making the main draw given she is the highest seed in her section, but when you have someone 9 years younger it's more exciting and the LTA obviously rate her as she has had a couple of QWCs and performed well in Glasgow. Plus not too big pre match odds suggested that it might actually be a competitive match and it's not like Holly was a 16/1 rank outsider.

Holly has made a flying start here anyway, *3-0.

Alicia had to save 2 consecutive BPs at 3-1*, but held and has broken again so 3-3.

Jodie 4-1*

Sam serving for set at *5-2

K Pitak *0-4.

Jodie broken to 15 when trying to serve out the set at 15, that'll give young Amelia a bit of confidence. 5-2*

Sam a set and a break up. K Pitak struggling as expected. Holly and Alicia 4-4.

Jodie broken again so back on serve, 5-4*. I know nothing about Rajecki, so don't know if she's considered a good prospect, but a bit concerning for Jodie you'd think.

Rajecki is considered a good prospect by the LTA. She got given a very coveted wildcard to the G1 at Roehampton last year (where she was pretty unimpressive, to be honest, although maybe I was just way off the mark, or she was not on form).

But her results (adult and junior) are certainly nothing to shout about....

Thanks CD. I see Jodie got over the line and has won 4 games on the trot since being pegged back to 5-5, so hopefully on her way as I'd like to think she could do something in the main draw should she get there. I'm sure she was about 1/500 to win this match, so a totally different scenario to Alicia who has just dropped the first set 5-7 to Holly.

Sam is the first winner over Emily Morton 6-2 6-0
Jodie now nearly over the line too. After the close first set has run away with the second 7-5 5-0*

Sam hopefully resting away where her future opponents are currently battling it out in the early stages of their first set.

Holly up a break in the 2nd and it's probably been coming. 7-5 *2-1. Too many poor errors by Alicia, netting volleys etc.
