Bolton and Sunderland 25k entry lists

Bolton:

https://www.itftennis.com/procircuit/tournaments/women's-tournament/info.aspx?tournamentid=1100045250

Harriet and Naomi (just) in the main draw. Maia 3 off, so may get in if there's a withdrawal and no SE's used. 9 Brits in qualifying (including Maia) where you'd imagine the 4 MDWCs would come from.

Sunderland:

Generally much weaker with far more events to compete with. Jodie has sneaked in to the main draw with a ranking of 352 and there's only 13 direct entries here with the bigger qualifying draw. Harriet, Naomi and Maia also in the main draw. 9 Brits currently in the 32 women Q draw (+ 5 QWCs TBA) and 3 more alts should join them once the 4 MDWCs are determined, but this does look a very good opportunity to get some solid runs going.

Quite tempted to try and make it to Sunderland. Can you just turn up to qualies on the Monday?

I think so. I was told spectators are welcome and that there was easy access to viewing, parking and catering. I'm planning to go towards the end of the week.

It's quite an interesting line up, obviously a fair bit weaker than most GB 25k's (which I'm finding positive), but there should be at least 8 GB players in the main draw (hopefully more) as well as a couple of very promising overseas juniors, and the return of Dodin after 10 months out (assuming she plays).

Not sure if Emma R will be given a MDWC with her already in Qs, and if not, that would make the Monday more interesting.

I see Buyukakcay has withdrawn from Bolton, so Maia is now 2 out. I haven't worked out the SE potentials, but if none, she'll get in directly.

I see Victoria Allen is still 30th on the alt list for Sunderland - but she is just 1 counter off from getting a WTA ranking. One of the many things that is definitely extremely flawed about the current system. At least Sasha Hill and Katya Pitak should also be in qualifying as of right once MD WCs kick in.

Would Emma be eligible for a SE if she reached the final in Israel? If you use the advanced search ITF places Israel in the list of European tournaments, but geographically it is in Asia. So, for the purposes of the SE rule, is it in the same continent?

I see Maegan MANASSE is playing in Croissy-Beaubourg.  Early days there but I'm not sure if progress in a 60K would give entitlement to an SE in a 25K?

I think both Emma and Maegan would be entitled to a SE place if they reach their respective finals.

Let's hope Emma can do that, but then I guess there'll probably be a few others currently in Bolton qualifying that are in contention in 15k events - what happens if more than 2 reach a final, do the tournament get to decide who would get the 2 SE's?

I'd be amazed if Manasse got anywhere near the final. I hadn't actually heard of her but I see she came through 10-7 in the MTB in her Q1 match after 7-6 6-7 sets, lost seemingly straightforward to Eikeri 6-4 6-1 in the FQR. Got a LL spot and beat a WC 6-7 7-6 7-6 in the first round, but I guess while she's still in the draw, we can't rule it out and she'll deserve her SE because her potential path looks particularly hard.

Anyone seen her play? With results like those, I'd imagine she might be a bit of an Isner, N Broady, Garcia-Perez type player, unless those scores are not consistent.

Yeah, Israel play Fed Cup in the Euro zone so for tennis purposes (like some other sports), it is considered a European nation.

There is a procedure. Those coming from 25k to 100k events get priority, and if more than 2 it is based on ranking. After that it is 15k, also ordered by ranking.

I've had a quick look through the Bolton qualifying list as well as the top 4 or 5 alts and by my reckoning, the following are in contention:

Manasse, France 60k - LL and her forecasted path to the final is - Tomova (6), then either Smitkova or Ponchet where either would be tough and probably Diatchenko/Rybakina after that in the semi final, so that would be some going if she made the final.

Paar & Ferrando, France 60k - they actually play each other in the 2nd round, so one will be out and one will progress to the QF (Paar the big favourite to do that), where they'll hopefully play Harriet (or Bucsa) and it'll be the likes of Garcia-Perez/Georges/PBG in the semi final - that's probably more feasible.

Emma - she was 1/14 to win her first match which some thought may have been a challenge pre match, and turned out to be with her dropping the first set, but as the 2nd seed and using those odds as a gauge, she'll probably be favourite to make the final. Let's hope so (without putting pressure on her).

One or two may have slipped through, but I think that's the situation.

Seeding won't be as important at the 500-750 level because in many cases some lower ranked players will often be far better than some of their higher ranked opponents, but I did notice 2 of the other 3 seeds in Emma's half are out, including 3rd seed Lou Adler, who has been mentioned on here a few times this year. Emma could face the 5th seed in the semi final and she is actually top of the 'Acceptance List', but she's dropped around 100 ranking places since the entry deadline.

Not sure on the current rules, but last year SE's were only granted to competitors playing at the same level and in qualifying.

The 2019 rulebook says it's any level of ITF or WTA, but must already be in qualifying. There are restrictions for SE's to 60k and higher tournaments though. Not certain if there have been any subsequent changes to any of that, given the tinkering with the entries.
