A few years back Indy DV was one of the real hot shot juniors - did she just not transition very well or has she suffered injuries?

Injuries looking at her CH. And looking at her activity list, she didn't play between July 2016 and October 2018. She retired in two matches in a row in June and July 16, so indeed suggests she was out through injury. Even since then this is just her 4th tournament and 2nd of 2019. She reached the SF at Monastir in Jan, but then retired in the 3rd set. Good luck to her, but not a great draw for Alice, since if Indy is fit Alice won't stand a chance.

Unfortunately, she has not played because of Lyme disease. It wasn't diagnosed until late 2017, but it is presumed it originated while in Japan in May 2016.

Oh dear, Lyme disease is really horrible, it's an extremely debilitating disease with an extraordinarily long recovery time. And it looks like in her case she had it for over a year before it was properly diagnosed. If she retired from a 3 setter in Jan, it also suggests that even now she is still recovering her energy only gradually. Well a great deal of good luck to Indy in that case, and I hope she does manage to recover fully eventually.

Must admit I thought, wrongly, this was an American problem.

It's a British problem too - be tick aware. Caused by Borrelia bacteria carried by ticks. Keep covered and remove any attached feeding ticks asap if you're walking/gardening in tick areas (rural area, parks, heathland, parks etc).

You are a font of knowledge, RedSquirrel.

All the best to Indy, that's nasty.

Wishing her well.....

The trouble with Lyme Disease is that the symptoms often suggest other conditions and, unless you are in an area where it is prevalent, doctors don't think to look for it.  It also doesn't always have huge symptoms initially with them increasing in severity over a very long time period.  It is most prevalent in areas with long grass and where deer or related species are present as they are carriers of the tics which spread it.  Indeed a few years back there were a couple of cases reported which were believed to have originated in Richmond or Bushey Park in West London.  Sam Stosur was out for a long time with it (1 year+?) having contracted it near Paris.  Whilst wishing Alice victory today, I do hope her opponent makes a full recover from this horrible illness.

Edit: typo
