Week 11 - ITF (W15) - Cancun, Mexico - Hard

Amelia managed to get into the q draw here - she'd been well down the list earlier - and both Emily App and Tiff William should be in the MD. Winner of Amelia's match will play the top q seed who has a first round bye.

QR1: Amelia STUART (GBR) UNR/933 vs Anais KIKUCHI (JPN) [q10] UNR/532 (CH:1092) 19yrs (JCH:1633)

Amelia lost a tight match on a MTB. Her opponent here then went onto beat the top q seed in an even closer MTB.

QR1: Amelia STUART (GBR) UNR/933 lost to Anais KIKUCHI (JPN) [q10] UNR/532 (CH:1092) 19yrs (JCH:1633) 4-6 6-3 7-10

In the MD, Emily has a tough draw... Tiff harder to tell, looks relatively evenly matched. Tiff's CH before the end of last year was slightly higher than Carrington's, though Carrington has retained her WTA ranking.

R32: Emily APPLETON (GBR) 742/46 vs Alexandra PERPER (MDA) [3] 565/351 (CH:406 June18)
R32: Tiffany WILLIAM (GBR) UNR/187 vs Safiya CARRINGTON (USA) 853/1491 (CH:846 Dec 18) 17yrs (JCH:355 Jan 16)

Emily, Tiff and Amelia are all in the doubles.

Emily App is top seed with an old partner Maria Jose PORTILLO RAMIREZ (MEX)

Tiff is playing with Alexandra MIKHAILUK (CAN) and Amelia with Alina MICHALITSCH (AUT) and they are a WC pair

Emily doing an Emily at the moment. Won the first set 6-4 but then collapsed and lost the second set in just 25 mins 1-6, winning just 8 points in the set. At least she has held serve at the beginning of the third set. It would be great if she could break the mould. This is only a 15k tournament, but these are still the rank of players she has routinely lost to over the last year.

I see Emily is scheduled to be on at 1pm UK today (8am local time) - is that correct? I guess it'll be to do with the afternoon heat, the same way that WTA Acapulco play didn't start until 4pm, but if the first 2 matches go long then the 3rd match might not start until 1.30pm or so anyway.

Yes, 5 hours time difference from UK. There are five matches scheduled on some of the courts, with the last ones showing as not before 14:00 local time. Three singles and two doubles.

Emily 5-5*. She's twice had a break advantage, but got broke back straight away both times.

3 breaks in a row (2 for opponent) and 6 in the second set, so 4-4*

Make that 4 breaks in a row. Em serving for the match at *5-4, mind there's been 7 breaks from the 9 games so far from a foregone conclusion.
