Katy ends her losing streak, winning 4 & 1. That's a pleasant surprise.

That is a good win. I was half expecting her to lose that one.
Melnikova next, who has just beaten Minnen 2 & 3

Good to see Katy have a positive day for a change. She's also won her doubles with Ivan Jorovic (SRB) over a local WC pair 6-1 6-2

Yeah, got to say, I was expecting her unwanted run to continue. Very good win. Well done Katy :)

As above, beating a higher ranked player, a seed, easily, and winning her dubs too - what a nice day for Katy !

When I saw the draw and comments above, my first thought was that this is exactly the sort of match she should be winning if she is to get her ranking back closer to 200. I'm delighted she got the win and really hope this is the start of a better run for her.

Katy's second round matches were all rained off today and postponed until tomorrow, Friday. Could lead to a late finish...

Very nice R1 win for Katy; fingers crossed she can build on that once the waether allows...

Take that - Katy needs the points.

Certainly does. The 9 gained so far this week only replace the 9 that drop off from Perth last year - and she has another 18 dropping off soon as well.

Showing as WR296 in live rankings, down 10.

Yes, Katy and Gabi (well also Naomi) have been responsible for the fact that we will drop below the 200 average for our top 10 for the first time in at least a year next week. So good to see Katy win a few matches again for a change, and hope she can continue... and may Gabi emulate her when she starts to play again (which fingers crossed should be next week, also here in Japan). Australia seems to have been cast aside as the land of victories past rather than future gained.
