Week 4 - ITF (W60) - Andrezieux-Boutheon, France - Hard Indoor

Here both Maia and Eden are in qualifying and Katy D should be in the MD. This field does not look like there have been late withdrawals, as Maia was 4th in the q list, but is now only q2, which suggests the only two moved up from the qual list above her are filling the two unused SE places in the MD. Eden does have a H2H win against Bucsa, although she retired in that match.

QR1: Maia LUMSDEN (GBR) [q2] 307 vs Marina BASSOLS RIBERA (ESP) 419 (CH:340 Dec 18) 19 yrs (JCH:1069 Jan 16)

QR1: Eden SILVA (GBR) 459 vs Cristina BUCSA (ESP) [q5] 320 (CH:317 Jan 19)

H2H:

2018$25,000 Joue-Les-ToursFRAHard32SILVA2-6 1-3 RET

As the 2nd q seed not a good start from Maia. She's been broken in her first two service games and is 0-3*down cry

Sadly two losses here, albeit Eden's was much closer

QR1: Maia LUMSDEN (GBR) [q2] 307 lost to Marina BASSOLS RIBERA (ESP) 419 (CH:340 Dec 18) 19 yrs (JCH:1069 Jan 16) 1-6 4-6
QR1: Eden SILVA (GBR) 459 lost to Cristina BUCSA (ESP) [q5] 320 (CH:317 Jan 19) 6-7(1) 3-6

Katy's first round draw is against the current top ranked junior...

R32: Katy DUNNE (GBR) 259 vs Clara BUREL (FRA) [WC] 551=CH17yrs (JCH:1 Oct 18 and current)

I must admit that I am not really surprised at those results, although naturally dissappointed. Katy has a tough match there, and will have to play well to beat Burel.

That is a tough one, the 17 yo JWR 1, even allowing for the very good junior age players that have moved on.

As Steven points out on twitter, Burel's last match was in the Aus Open MD R1 as the French reciprocal WC. Lost 7-5 6-2 to Suarez Navarro.

I am afraid I wouldn't bet on Katy for this one even near her best.

And if, hypothetically, you placed a bet on Burel, you wouldn't get much back in return. Let's hope she can surprise us and the bookies tomorrow.

Clara lost 3 and 1 to Georges (who was a Gabi victim a couple of times in Aus last year) so that might give a bit of an indication of where Katy currently is.

On a side note, I've never seen such a weak (on paper) looking QF line up for a European 60k event.

Sramkova vs Gervais - Sramkova won, not heard of Gervais
Albie vs Gatto-Monticone - Albie won that and I've not heard of her
Shinikova vs Schoofs - the better known Schoofs lost
#1 Hercog vs the aforementioned Georges

Albie and Gervais are circa 340 and 440 respectively.

Fiona Gervais is a real 'nobody' in tennis terms (sorry, Fiona).

Are you sure that's her ranking? I didn't think she had any WTA ranking - she barely got into the top 1000 before they changed the system. (It might be her ITF one but I can't believe it's a WTA one)

Audrey Albie is a more decent player, WTA 340 sounds about right.

Ahh, stupid me, it's Julie Gervais, not Fiona...... duh.....

Ok, start again. Julie's OK, but very much a journey woman player, must be 27 or 28 now, and never made it into the top 300, if memory serves.....

Albie is definitely better.
