Suspicious betting going on in a doubles match that Verdasco was playing in.

I was interviewed by TIU regarding betting activity on my doubles match at Wimbledon. I fully support the TIU work as I have always been totally committed to integrity and transparency in our sport and will never compromise that.

Really ??

I can think of rather worse 'crimes' in a game that hardly divorces itself from betting.

But maybe in the small print of heinous crimes.

That is ridiculous the Farah thing. There is nothing illegal in what he has done, I hope he appeals that. Absolute nonsense.

Liked David Law's tweet:

"The ITF and several tournaments have been given a three-month suspended sentence for promoting betting websites in the recent past ...

No they havent. But doubles player Robert Farah has."

If the sentence is suspended (as David Law suggests) then that is less outrageous.

Just to repeat the announcement that three Thai umpires have been banned for life:

"Three umpires have been suspended for life after being found guilty of match-fixing and betting offences at a series of ITF Futures tournaments in Thailand last year.

Anucha Tongplew, Apisit Promchai and Chitchai Srililai, all Thai nationals, are not allowed to officiate or attend any professional tennis tournaments ever again after gambling on matches and manipulating the entry of scores into the official system for betting-related purposes and personal profit."

To what extent can the large fines actually be enforced? Both players are effectively retired and too old; these aren't criminal charges so can they actually gather such large fines eg enforce through civil means such as a debtor might be chased through court and perhaps bankruptcy proceedings if they don't pay?

Interesting point you raise. Strictly speaking, these fines are enforceable, particularly where they are designed to protect the reputation of the organisation. In this particular case, it will certainly test the mettle of the body responsible for collecting the fines, presumably the ITF if the TIU ultimately comes under its remit.
