Weeks 3 & 4 - Australian Open - men's singles main draw (hard)

L128:  (22) Roberto Bautista (ESP) WR 23 (CH = 13 in October 2015) vs (PR) Andy Murray WR 230 (CH = 1 in November 2016)

The head-to-head is 3-0 in Andy's favour, with the last meeting between the two being the Shanghai Masters final in 2016 which Andy won in straight sets

L128:  Cameron Norrie WR 93 (CH = 66 last August) vs Taylor Fritz (USA) WR 50 (CH = 47 last November)  disbelief

The head-to-head is 1-0 to Cam, who beat Fritz in straight sets in Auckland overnight.

L128:  (13) Kyle Edmund WR 14 (= CH) vs Tomas Berdych (CZE) WR 57 (CH = 4 in May 2015)

Berdych is now 33, but will still be no pushover for Kyle.  The pair have met once before, in the quarter-finals in Doha in 2016, when the Czech won by 3 & 2.

If he qualifies, Dan could end up facing NoDjo (1), Taro Daniel (WR 78), Daniil Medvedev (15/WR16), Pablo Carreño (23/WR 24), Kei Nishikori (8/WR 9), Gilou (29/WR 31 & now 34 years old), Maximilian Marterer (WR 70), Fernando Verdasco (26/WR 28 & 35 years old), Roberto Carballés (WR 73), Guido Andreozzi (WR 80), Nikoloz Basilashvili (19/WR 20), a fellow qualifier, Tiafoe (WR 39), Diego Schwartzman (18/WR 19) or Mirza Basic (WR 97).

Looks like all 3 Brits (plus Heather/Katie) will play on Monday. Konta on Tuesday

Really bad draw for Andy and Kyle,

but the most shocking details of the above post, is that that Taro Daniel is still ranked 78 in the world. One of the world's biggest mysteries.

You have inserted Kyle for Cam in the para about him and Fritz.

Getting ahead of myself, but it's perfectly possible that Dan Evans qualifies and becomes the only GB male to make it to the second round...

Not probable but you never know.....

And with that draw as well! Though I would make Cam just as likely to win his 1st round match given recent form

Looking like a good shout right now.  But I wouldn't put it past a certain Mr Murray to summon up one last super human effort and make it past Bautista Agut.

Dan gets the "fellow qualifier" slot:

L128:  (Q) Tatsumsa Ito (JPN) WR 151 (CH = 60 in October 2012 - he's 30) vs (Q) Daniel Evans WR 190 (CH = 41 in March 2017)

The gods must have decided to smile on him again at last!  biggrin

I saw somewhere that the bottom halves of the draw are playing on Monday and that's where all our players are except for Jo.
