Week 2 - Challenger 80 - Columbus, USA (outdoor hard)

Challenger in same week as Grand Slam qualifying in different continent madness (WR 242 is the top seed). Liam missed out on a seeding by 2 spots.

L48: Jan Choinski WR 292 vs Alejandro Gonzalez (COL) WR 312 (CH 70, June '14)

L48: Laurynas Grigelis (LTU) WR 287 (CH 183, Jun '12) vs Liam Broady WR 273

The Vietnam event has top seed Marcel granollers at 91, then second seed ranked down at 291!

Any bets on who is likely to win that event?

I guess the argument is if the ATP want to restrict the amount of ATP ranked players to 6-500 and with little ATP points now available on the ITF tour. Then surely the ATP now have a duty to provide for the payers between 250 and 6-500.

However to have 3 this week during the Australian Open Qualifying and then only 1 during week one of the Grand Slam when the higher ranked challenger players will want a tournament is strange.

I suppose its to create a relatively quick turn around at the Challenger/ Slam Qualifying interface ie you either do well in Qualifying and push on, if you dont there is an opportunity for those just behind to catch up and get a crack. A situation that will most advantage the young players who are improving or just under ranked because they are transitioning.

Was 5-4 up in third serving for match. Liam has to be mentally strong as he does not have major weapons. Unfortunately this seems to be his weakest point.

...as well as having no major weapons, I suppose.

Well, good luck in R2 for our new Brit.
