Jan Choinski

Jan finished the year as GB#9 and so he is a breakdown of how he got those points.

Out of the Top10 players, he achieved the biggest leap in WR, registering a rise of 354 places, just edging out Alastair.  Jan definitely enjoyed the clay the most, with almost 84% of his points coming from those tournaments. He was one of just two players (Paul being the other) who collected points from South America (all clay tournaments) and along with Alastair was the only other Top10 player who did not visit the US in 2022. Jan had the 2nd highest win rate amongst the Top10 (69%) and the 99 points he won claiming his two titles represents 45% of his total points, the highest percentage amongst the 10. He hit form late in the year with 63% of his points coming in Q4.

Jan got a wildcard into Wimbledon main draw - and won his first match

Things I have learnt about Jan from the commentary today of his second match:

Both his parents were professional ballet dancers

They ran a ballet dance academy and Jan was a fulltime student there until the age of 12

He's had hip surgery and major shoulder issues

He also had glandular fever (mono) rather badly

And covid

He eats 5,500 calories a day

He has a Polish coach (Pavel Strauss, I think, is his name)

Also he is very tall to be the son of ballet dancers.

He has nudged and nurdled his way up the rankings - good luck to him. It's not easy.

He's actually leveled up since coming back from injury, clearly adding something to his game to go from 250+ to into the top 200. Done himself justice this week. Looking forward to seeing him this summer in the US.

Congrats to Jan who takes the title in Germany and continues his climb up the rankings, getting ever closer to the top-100 (hope the Germans are miffed, now, that they lost him )

And to round it off, Jan now posts a new CH, getting pretty close to that top-100
