Wimbledon announces they will introduce TB's at 12-12 in the final set from 2019, to apply to all matches, mens, womens, senior,s juniors, singles, doubles, qualies etc

Thank goodness for that, at least.

I think that's very sensible.
Historically I've always been against final set TBs, but it has been a real problem so I see the need for the change.

Indeed !!!!!!!!

Personally I'd have normal TBs in final sets. But I do think this will carry more people with it, and the biggie is that it gets rid of the truly ridiculous battle to see who can keep standing at silly scores before probably being dismissed in the next round.

Well done Wimbledon, at last

There's always a bit of room for adjustment in the future if it's felt necessary - if I remember correctly, when TBs first came in at Wimbledon they were at 8-8, then that got changed to 6-6.

Final set tie breaks are awful, takes out the tension and suspense, we dont want to head down the Doubles route, Ive heard champions tie breaks mentioned. Toss a coin, lottery etc.

To me we are taking the Grand out of slams here. For all the amount of times it happens anyway. Im disappointed in this change I have to say.

For me, "no ad" scoring and champions/match TBs are just not tennis. The sooner doubles reverts to proper scoring, the better.

I really hate "no ad" scoring. Although I would prefer normal final sets for doubles I can just about live with MTBs.

And I do get that MTBs help more estimate the length of time of a match and so help scheduling, including at times helping get the doubles players on to better courts. "No ad" cuts down the time less and more unpredictably and really is not worth destroying a great part of the scoring system.

Re MTBs themselves, first to 10 ( if by 2 clear points ) by winning tennis points is not nearly as much of a lottery as is so often suggested. Indeed normal first to 7 TBs are not simply a lottery but still a tennis test and an element of testing the person at a crucial juncture.

Tsk. Have these people no regard for tradition?

I like the Tb at 12-12, still keeps that occasion and acknowledgement of a final set without the possibility that it goes on for days. Also gives the winner some chance of recovering before their next match. Is it a normal TB or MTB at 12-12? I would prefer a MTB.

It's a normal one to 7 by 2 clear points.

Tie breaks, long matches, who mostly comes to mind ?

John Isner is doing his stuff in Stockholm.

Bye to L16.
L16 vs Klahn, he won 7-6(2) 6-7(5) 7-6(5), no breaks of serve
QF vs Sandgren, one set all, 7-6(8) 6-7(5), no breaks of serve so far.

Personally though, I still don't think the likes of Big John or opponent should have to break serve in a Slam final set. But yes they can go to 12 all.

... and with that Isner has been broken in today's third set, 1-2*

I'm fully behind this change. Loads were suggesting 9-9, 10-10, 12-12 after that match but I didn't think it would happen. Be interesting to see what the other 2 do.
