Good win for Harriet+, shooting down the #4 seeds in straight sets

Well done. Nice 100 points. So as well as live GB singles #4 Harriet is closing in on our top 4 in the doubles and indeed another win here would have her very close to Jo and with that close to the top 100.

Hopefully some of the doubles has helped her singles along in aspects of the game and more exposure to top level players and just building that confidence.

Overall she probably would have liked more singles wins of late but she had already got her ranking significantly up, had a bit of a window re relatively few points dropping off after July, and for instance easily into Australian Open qualifying, and has gained valuable experience at higher levels to take into the close season.

Great progress for her this year.

Agreed. I respect her ambitious scheduling post US Open. Yes, several matches she lost we now expect her to win but 12 months ago we were positively encouraged when she won matches at 25K level.

Harriet was WR345 when I saw her play Lucy at Chiswick just three years ago - I am still amazed how much progress she has made since then. That was a $10k event - now she's moving on to play WTA.

(The thread is back on page 50 if anyone wants a recap - so many familiar names)
Katy Dunne was the top seed at WR342

It's Gavrilova next for Jo who has just beaten former compatriot Diatchenko 7-6 7-5 in a match finishing just short of midnight Moscow time. Gavrilova had a MTO at 5-5 in the second set. I assume it will be on as late as possible tomorrow to gave Daria as much turnaround time as possible which should mean that most of us will be able to see it after work.

It's the fourth match on Court 1 - following two mens matches and Bertens/Sasnovich

Thanks. So we're probably looking at around 3pm UK time, obviously depending on how the prior matches go. Not the most recovery time for Gavrilova.

Both interesting to see how many names are still playing from that Chiswick tournanent you mention - and those who aren't. Did those who are no longer playing or seem to just stop and/or retire (injuries?)

Some just stopped, some went into coaching, some were injured and stopped.......the ones I know about are a mixture of all those !
Some of those no longer playing at ITF level still play County Cup and other team tennis.

I notice Ons Jabeur has just beaten Sloane 6-3 6-2. Makes Harriet's performance against her look even better.

It doesn't really, SuperT. I've not seen the match, but Sloane is getting absolute pelters on TF for the performance and that she couldn't be bothered at all but just took the WC to deny Svitolina getting one.

I have recorded BT (mainly for Jo) so might watch it back tonight, so will see for myself, but sounds like a pretty poor move by Sloane.

Although on the other hand, Pliskova has just lost 1 and 2 to Zvonareva and she didn't have that excuse. Svitolina has qualified as a result.

Aaah.  I just saw the result and obviously drew the wrong conclusion.  Somehow an early loss never feels quite so bad if the winner goes on to do really well in the tournament.
