Mir Ambaye is the girl who, I believe, is half-British (her dad, I think, is British - an 'interesting' character.....). Her sister is Alpha. They've played quite a few events in the UK, British Tour and that sort of thing. I don't rate them that highly. If Ella doesn't get through that match, 'tranquille', I'll be seriously upset .....
Aubane is one of the large stable of youngsters who is promising without being standout (which doesn't really matter at this age). Her brother is a top junior too (born 2001, ATP 1300 or so, ex 50 or so in juniors). Their dad was doing a crowd funding thing a while back. Aubane came through two rounds in the nationals in summer but no more. She's got a pretty impressive domestic ranking for her age (15) though. Played about 70 proper competitive matches last year. Serious player but Lissey should show her what's for.
Perfect. That's exactly the sort of score I'd hoped for.
For those who also keep a half-eye on players with British connections/parents, Lucy Furness is up next on the same court.
Lucy, age 16 (born 2002), is the sister of Evan Furness who is often mentioned here, age 20, and is now ranked approx 500.
Their dad is Mark Furness, ex-tennis player from Sheffield, who was playing money tournaments in France, at age 20, made the final of one, got asked by the president of that club if he wanted to play team league tennis for them, he started to, got more and more into the system there, met and married a French girl, became a tennis coach, and now lives and coaches in France. (Although still plays his veteran tennis for GB - I think he was WR 3 in the over 35s at one point !).
Anyway, not sure Lucy has quite the pedigree of her brother but she's been doing pretty well in some of the junior and money events.
Fayol is 23, nearly 24, and one of the big batch of French tennis players who play a very decent game but pose no real threat to the higher rungs of pro tennis. She's got some good domestic results but not much to show for it in the last 12 months, certainly not on the pro tour. Not a foregone conclusion but Lissey will win if she is focused.
Boualem is slightly stronger, in my view, than Fayol but there's very little in it - similar age, similar profile. Boualem has been based in Spain, I believe, since she was 10. Again, not a foregone conclusion but Eden should win.
Lou Brouleau is the best of the bunch, the most promising when younger, but, again, now is basically another mid-ranked player without showing too many signs of breaking through. However, I'd expect her to be too strong for Ella (but would love to be wrong).
Lissey finally wins the set that it looked like no-one wanted, on her 3rd SP in 1hr 31mins 7-6(7)
Just 4/20 BPs between them, but two crucial breaks were in the last two service games - Fayol served for the set.
Let's hope Lissey can now go on to pull clear in the 2nd set.
