I think this is the 3rd draw in a row that Tiff has drawn one of the top 2 seeds. She really is due a break in first round draws soon!

 Absolutely !!!

(Although, I guess, making the main draw of a 25k when you're only ranked 950 or so is maybe a lucky break in itself)

Yes, you're right, the other two draws were 15ks. And the point she gets here for being in the main draw guarantees she will have 3 counters until next July, and so is another to add to Indy's list of those guaranteed to have rankings at the start of next year.

Tiff actually did well in all those matches against the top seeds, suggesting she does have quite a bit more upward potential at the moment, if she can face a few players that are not all 100s of places ahead of her at the moment.

Don't forget 15K counters don't count towards WTA ranking next year, so while she'll end the year with a [WTA] ranking when the last rankings under the current system are out on the 24th December, she won't start next year with one. It doesn't look like there are any arbitrary rules on counters/points to have an ITF ranking, so her two 15K counters will give her an ITF ranking.

Interesting, Red Squirrel.

I knew that, as things stand, Tiff's WTA ranking will disappear at the end of the year (unless she manages to do well in any 25ks or higher before the end of the year), because she'll only the one WTA point from this event as the 15ks don't count/don't give WTA points in the new system.

But I hadn't made the connection that all those people with only 1 point, or 6 points from only 2 counters, say, who are not WTA ranked at the moment, will all be ITF ranked next year.

In many ways, that's really good news, especially for players like Olivia Peet, say, and it certainly gets rid of the daft anomaly above of the unranked player with 6 points from 2 counters, and makes the ITF ranking more logical and straight-forward.

Yes, it also means that people like Erin Richardson (6 pts, 1 counter) and Sasha Hill (7 pts, 1 counter) will also have ITF rankings next year.  Sasha is however entered for some of the upcoming Sharm events so may pick up a WTA ranking before the end of this year, which was RS notes, will then become only a ITF ranking next year, as currently her points and entries are for 15ks. However Eden's 6 pts will give her a WTA ranking!

Although Eden Richardson's 6 points are from a 100K, if the WTA rankings ( as opposed to the ITF ones ) are still retaining the 10 points or 3 counters minimum then still not a WTA ranking, just a counter towards a WTA ranking.

Yes, far too much for Tiff here, just the one point she gets, but good experience and in terms of points she did ok. More first serves in might have won her a few more games - she won 64% of her first serve points, but only on a 49% first serve.

Tiff and Paulina Jastrzebska (POL) won their first round doubles match today 6-4 6-3.
Paulina partnered with Emilie LG in Ceuta last month, and in June with Tiff again. They will likely face the second seeds next.
