Interesting that in the doubles here Emily is again the 2nd seed. But she is not partnering Ida Jarlskog, with whom she won the doubles title last week, but instead with Dasha Ivanova (USA), who was one of the pair she beat in the final last week. Meanwhile Ida is still in the draw but playing with a fellow Swede this week. The merry-go round and intricacies of doubles relationships...

Emily A and Dasha warm up for the main event with another little romp winning 6-0 6-1 in under 40 mins today. Next up will be a Dutch pair.
It is the main event that really counts this week though, which Emily should start tomorrow. She needs a run, SF at least, and anything else will be a failure this week.
Emily is facing a potential nightmare situation here. After cruising the first set, she lost the second on the only break of the set, and in the third, is already an early break down. She needs to turn this around fast... She really cannot afford to lose this match... 6-1 3-6 1-2*
And the #2 seed Sky sports scholar has lost to an unranked player her own age who has achieved nothing like her junior ranking. Emily will be feeling sick to her toes at the moment, whilst she keeps cruising to doubles titles, she just cannot buy a singles win at the moment
In that 9th game, after pulling the score back to 4-4, Emily then had 5 BPs against her before she lost her serve - but only got 1 GP in that time, she just could not get any ascendancy in that 3rd set. This is a really bad moment for her now. She'll have to do a bit of rethinking once she has had time to recover... without watching the match, it seemed she could play with relative freedom in the first set, but then tightened up - or her opponent suddenly got much better.

Another doubles walk in the park for Emily. Wins her doubles QF with Dasha 6-4 6-0. Dasha is also easily through to the singles QF, Emily will be wondering why she cannot do that part of it too...
In the weeks least surprising tennis news, Emily Appleton has made another $15K doubles final. She progressed with Dasha today, 4 & 3 against the unseeded Filipino/Mexican alliance of Capadocia/Villareal.
Edit: She has played a lot of weeks; could do with a 4-5 week block recovery and other non-competition, in my opinion.
