Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon - women's doubles (grass)

First time I have seen Anna and Xenia play together - very impressive.
Pity the crowd is so small - plenty off room around the court.

Had a couple of break points to go a break ahead but couldn't convert 3-4.

Yes it was unfortunate for the Anna and Xenia to lose in 3 sets.. but they had plenty of opportunities that they did not take unfortunately. I didn't follow/ watch the whole match, but the times I did in both the 2nd and 3rd sets there were several games, both on serve and against, when they reached 40 first but failed to take the game. In the 3rd set, on both the breaks against them they had game points, so the match could easily have gone the other way.

Thus far although their partnership has been promising they still have really to deliver on it. They've shown they can be competitive and I don't recall them experiencing many huge losses, but they still haven't pulled out enough wins on occasions when they could have been possible. Don't think it helped them here not playing at Eastbourne last week, where they would obviously have liked to play... thanks Eastbourne for that. However, i hope they continue to play together, since their partnership does seem to have potential, and that they can make it blossom further on the US hard court swing.

R64: Xenia Knoll/ Anna Smith (SUI/GBR) 116 (67+49) lost to Raquel Atawo/ Anna-Lena Groenefeld (USA/GER) [11] 49 (33+16) 6-4 3-6 3-6

A good draw and a really positive performance from Heather and Tatjana, very encouraging for them. Katy D and Harriet to come, then the first round doubles results can be rounded up.

A very accomplished performance by D & D - really worked well together, and always seemed to know what the other was doing. Good serving and returning from both of them. Five aces, and 63-40 points overall.

And a good crowd supporting them, which Katy in paticular really enjoyed.
