The other "Emilie" is also there in q1 - so they might have a crack at the doubles.

Nice to see Emily step up to 25k singles.

A 15K win and final last September preceded a very good Autumn run with a regional win and then good erformancec in the ITA National fall ugh championships winning the doubles, a NCAA team championship in the 4 slot (up from 5) in a very strong Stanford team.

Emily obviously could play higher somewhere else but paradoxically some pretty decent tennis players after a Stanford degree (no 1 and 2 players would be hard to dislodge) and very high quality coaching on the side, so interestingly the summer stuff is probably all about improving to fight off the pressure from behind (good freshman at no 5) and chasing that No 3 slot. A bit of 25K progress would do her no halm.

Emily's made it through to the MD, as has her doubles partner, Emilie, with whom she is entered again this week. It's Emily's first point in a while smile

Just to note having just checked up, Emily's current ranking points were all collected between July and Sept last year, and of these 8/26 came during the Wimbledon fortnight. These include a R32 win in a 25k tournament (Middelburg, Netherlands) for which she qualified. Thus she could really do with at least a first round win here too this year, just to help maintain her current ranking post Wimbledon! Emily only has 6 current counting events.

Emily hasn't actually played on tour since last September until this trip to Sweden. She could do with two more counters or a 10 pointer somewhere this summer, or she will drop out out of the rankings inf September when her winner's points from Hammamet come off.

I reckon that Emily will be absolutely fine regarding retaining a ranking. She will pick up another summer little haul or maybe even a big haul.

How that will all look come next year with the big  ITF changes who knows. From memory I think for the women 25K points, so any from here, will still count towards the main WTA rankings but 15K points just to the ITF entry points.

R1: ARBUTHNOTT, Emily (GBR) Q 719 v GUTIERREZ CARRASCO, Maria (ESP) Q 678 =CH

If she wins Emily is likely to play the top seed in R2.

Emily's not having a good start to her first singles MD match this year. She has lost the first set in just over 30 mins 0-6. Let's hope that's the warm up out of the way.

She and the other Emilie also followed up their title winning run in last week's 25k by losing in the first round here 3-6 5-7 to Bondar/ Samir (HUN/EGY).

Not a great tournament for her at this point, and needs some turn around for it not to be finished following one more set.

And not a good day for Emily. They were 2-2 at the start of the second set, but those proved her only two games of the match. Surprising she would lose quite so comprehensively to a fellow qualifier. cry

R1: ARBUTHNOTT, Emily (GBR) Q 719 lost to GUTIERREZ CARRASCO, Maria (ESP) Q 678 =CH 0-6 2-6

Yes, a very surprising scoreline. The Spaniard is a 20 yo at a CH and a brief look at her activity doesn't suggest that as any particular underranking. Maia beat her 6-3 6-0 in Obidos in April.
