There is only one round of qualifying here this coming week, and Taro faces a 14yr old in it. Tiff Williams should be in the MD, she seems to have been moving around a lot of late, as she was in South Korea last week, Hua Hin before that, and then Spain before too, playing in 25ks rather strangely as she is yet to win a point this year since coming back from injury. This week would be a good time to start.

I think it is simply imaginative parents, rather than any particular tradition, as I recall. Has siblings called Carlen, Persia & Marli.

And in the MD Taro will play the 4th seed; Tiff is seeded 6. It is not a strong field, so on that score Taro can count herself relatively unlucky...

Yes, but there's a whole heap of unranked players who play better than Fiona Codino, so it's a pretty good draw, really, for Taro. (She may well lose, of course, I've never seen her play, but better probably to have a true ranking of 900 or so opponent than a falsely unranked junior or college player)
