R1: APPLETON, Emily (GBR) 612 v GIBBS, Nicole (USA) WC 1 113 CH=68 25/7/16 

 

Emily is not having much luck in USA at present, two top seeds in a row.

She's not local - born in Cincinnati, and lives in Santa Monica, California. She was given a late WC entry, so obviously decided to fly back to the US after losing in RG qualis, and was accommodated by the organisers to raise their profile... Emily then being the most immediate loser. Mind you the top seed would otherwise have been Khazaniuk who beat her last week...

When you consider that it's 612 v 113 that's not a bad result. Didn't expect her to win it - sad about the draw smilecry
