Better luck Liam for the doubles...

L32: (WC) Alex Ward WR 327 beat Liam Broady WR 167  2-6 6-4 7-6(7)

Alex's first win since a USA futures QF in December followed on from two USA futures titles. Clearly had his injury issues since and just had 4 previous challenger outings this year, all lost.

Just saw the last couple of games but Alex was striking the ball very well and powerfully at times.

Sorry to see Liam lose, but can't help feeling Alex deserves his chances. I was going to be really gutted for him if he had another close loss against a higher ranked player. Just 10 pts, but should do his confidence a lot of good. And for Liam, he has been marking time a bit of late, but feel his game seems to be becoming more consistent and hope he can progress further upwards again soon.

Shared your disappointment. Didn't see much either, but felt like Liam became tight, and was too often rolling the ball in rather than seizing the initiative, frankly you don't deserve to win games on grass playing like that. Well done to Alex, but I suspect that Liam will be kicking himself, he can do so much better than that.

Anyone going to be spectating tomorrow? I shall be there, probably wearing my green British tennis t-shirt, feel free to say hello.

I'll find you Priesty.  Will recognise you I'm sure, though you might not recognise me - I look about 100 now !!!

I'm pleased for Alex, but Liam's level really wasn't great. I started watching when he was broken back  in the middle of the final set.  His forehands were short and lacked penetration. I hope he can find some form soon. I'm not sure his decision to play on the dirt this spring was the correct one - he didn't win many points and now has a bucket load to defend in the second half of the year.

That's a pretty fair summary - Alex was the braver of the two at the crunch and therefore deserved to win

L16:  Marcel Granollers (ESP) WR 138 (CH = 19 in July 2012 =- he's now 32) vs (WC) Alex Ward WR 327

The Spaniard has just despatched the third seed, Thomas Fabbiano, in straight sets.

Cannot see Klien playing on after this year.

Cannot see you spelling his name right before then

 Its just a small mistake........

Klien or Klien, still no idea which one is correct, but both common surnames in their own right.

Probably went over your head lads, it was a language joke. Think German....

King's place (wrist problem) taken by a lucky loser:

L32:  (LL) Dominik Köpfer (GER) WR 236 (CH = 225 in March) vs (SE) Dan Evans WR 530

Köpfer lost to Freddie Nielsen in the FQR.

I watched first set and Ito was terrible - he must have improved a lot this set

Not sure. But Cam was serving at 5-5, all comfortable, leading 40-15 (?), and then played some really awful points, for no reason, got broken, and now it's 1 set all......
