Week 24 - Challenger (€127,000+H) - Nature Valley Open, Nottingham, Great Britain (grass)

The bookies were right!

QF:  (SE) Dan Evans WR 530 defeated (Q) Brayden Schnur (CAN) WR 239 by 7-6(5) 6-3  biggrin

The match to decide whom Dan plays in the semi-final, Marcel Granollers or the Indian fifth seed, Ramkumar Ramanathan, has just gone into a thrid set.

Pretty good time for Dan to get the first break of the match. He was 40-0 up with 3 match points but pegged back to deuce. Gets over the line though! Another good win, another SF, another SE for Ilkley (presuming he doesnt get a WC for Queens). Great stuff.

The second set was also extremely close, and until Dan got the break to go 5-3 up, Schnur had the edge.  I feel that Dan was one notch down from his best, he played better against Stakhovsky.  Dan's play was quite defensive, not sure whether this was the intention or not.  Anyway, winning when not at your best is a fantastic skill, and he gets the special exemption for Ilkley.

Not even the faintest hope of an all-Brit final:

QF:  (4) Ilya Ivashka (BLR) WR 115 (CH = 111 last month) defeated (WC) James Ward) WR 407 by 4 & 3  cry

No, but Evo vs de Minaur would be a great final!

Shame for James but another step forward. Back into the top 400 now?

Where should this take Dan?

Live rankings show Dan at 390 and James at 361. Another win for Dan would see him overtake.

It's getting harder and harder I feel for the LTA / AELTC to even contemplate not giving Evo a WC for the Main Draw at Wimbledon. I'd understand the argument more if it had been a PED but surely they won't fail to see the tennis side of things? On form and potential, it's crystal clear.
