Week 25 - WTA Premier ($936k) - Birmingham, Grass

2 bp's for the Dunnester to go 2-0 up, the first snuffed out by a FH error and the second by a lovely drop shot from Dodin. But still holding her own at 2-1*, not possessing the same weight of shot but making up for it with pinpoint accuracy with serve and some groundstrokes.

Katy drops her serve, 2-3*, saved one BP with a big FH into the corner but then telegraphed a drop shot that just sat up and begged for Dodin to whack it past her...

Having lost the first 6-2 Katy fends off 3 Bp's in the first game of the 2nd but a BH into the net gifts Dodin the break...2-6 0-1*...

Poor Katy getting a bit of a thrashing here, 2-6 0-3*, when Dodin's shots land in her weight of shot is clearly superior.

Forgot to mention - Katy has been playing with the top of her right thigh quite heavily strapped.

Brave comeback to 3-3, changing tactics by dropping the Oceane a couple of times and playing a lovely volley but then loses serve again, 3-4*...

GSM Dodin 6-2 6-4.

Brave effort from Katy, she never gave up but was always swimming against the tide and was sunk by the superior power of the Oceane. She fights hard but at this level seems to lack the weight of shot and relies too much on pinpoint accuracy and consistency. Afraid I can't really ever see her becoming a WTA regular...

At least it's finished just before the start of Katie B's match...

Katie B struggling to find her rhythm at the moment, gifting too many points with netted groundstrokes and had lost 8 of the first 9 games but hopefully a good service hold to love will have given her a boost, 1-6 1-2*...

Katie avoids double breadsticks but goes down 1 and 2.

A few good points from Katie especially towards the end but also far too many UEs including at 30 all and then deuce in the final game when she went for far too much on the returns instead of just making her opponent play the ball. But still very new to this level and hopefully she will learn from this and continue the encouraging progress she has made this year.

As ever, will have to be a 3 set victory, loses the first on a tb. Heather screamed "why so bad or thats so bad" at on the tb.

Lost 76(2) 75.

Thought she played quite well. This is a tough field.

She's not going to defend Eastbourne so her ranking will take a huge but but signs of better tennis the last 2 weeks.

Backhand was very nice, forehand let her down.

Plenty of good in her game, just a few too many errors at the wrong time. It just so happens that Tsurenko has an official ranking of 37, which is one place higher than Hev's CH, so to compete that closely is a good sign. Just need the results to come.

Yes agreed she played really well at times, but those 3 bad UEs in her final service game more or less gifted to match to Tsurenko.  When matches are tight like that she needs to far more disciplined and at least make her opponent work for the win.  I can't help feeling that was a missed opportunity today.

Am I right in saying if Heather doesnt play before Wimbledon her ranking will drop to outside the top 100?

My prediction that Gaby will finish above Heather may even be closer than year end if thats the case.
