Week 17 - Tunisia F16 ($15,000) - Jerba (hard)

No reason that Aidan cant win the title now, its all ITF seasoned plodders no ringers here now.

SF:  (1) Yannick Mertens (BEL) WR 339 (CH = 179 in August 2015 - he's now 30) vs (Q) Aidan McHugh WR 1245

SF:  Neil Pauffley WR 764 vs (2) Altug Çelikbilek (TUR) WR 487

All GB final ?  Just got to take out the top 2 seeds.

Either way, congrats to both Neil and Aidan on reaching the semis.

Certainly a great chance for an all GB final, nothing to separate the 4 remaining Id say. All the best guys.

I'd be very surprised if Aidan took a set off Mertens, who's a class act on his day.

Mertens is your typical ITF seasoned player. Looks good at this level but isnt good enough to compete for Challenger titles. Aidans ranking is false and is up and coming. It will be close. Aidan in 2 close sets I ll say.

Loving your optimism Jaggy.  Let's hope it is justified.

I certainly think Mertens will have too much at this stage for Aidan. But well done so far mate and go prove me wrong.

Neal looks to me to have much more of a chance, a very good one if he brings close to his A game to court, though that can be the problem.

Aidan lost 6-7(2) 2-6 to Mertens in the Glasgow Future earlier this year, just having come back from Australia. So would be great if he could turn it around here.

So much for an all-GB final:

SF:  (1) Yannick Mertens (BEL) WR 339 defeated (Q) Aidan McHugh WR 1245 by 2 & 1

SF:  (2) Altug Çelikbilek (TUR) WR 487 defeated Neil Pauffley WR 764 by 6-1 3-0 retired  hmm

Sheddie 1 GB (over)optimists 0!  cry

C'est la vie.

But it has still been a very good week for both players.

PS. I google translated to make sure I got the apostrophe in the right place. I know "people" are watching.  wink

Aye

Anyway, still very good weeks for Aidan and Neil, particularly Aidan. Hope nothing serious for Neil.
