Week 12 - ITF ($15K) - Manama, Bahrain - Hard

The latest stop for our peripatetic Emily.

Doubles draw up first and Emily has yet another partner, and I think she's collecting partner countries as well as playing countries. This time she's with Valeria Bhunu (ZIM), and they are the top seeds with a bye into the second round.

Emily will get a singles seeding too, when the singles draw comes out.

Certainly likes travelling around ! But it looks as if she's taking a couple of weeks (at least) break over Easter

Em and Bhunu train with the same academy in Cape Town.

Opens against an Indian qualifier but in same quarter as the top seed.

Capadocia is a Q here.
Emily has never played against (or with in doubles) a Filipino.

Wins 64 76(3).

A little trickier than it needed to be, but job done

Emily is having a really tough battle against the Filipino qualifier. I must admit all credit to her since it suggests that she is probably a promising player restricted by the economics of competitive play. Emily kept failing to hold her serve after securing breaks in the second set, but eventually wins on the TB.

R16: Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) [7] 607 beat Marian Jade CAPADOCIA (PHI) [Q] UNR 6-4 7-6(3)

Next up for Emily could be the top seed Quirine Lemoine (FRA), who is on court at the end of the afternoon.

Well done Emily, stringing a bit of form and results together now

I often do this with her, also; Quirine Lemoine is in fact Dutch.
I do the reverse in the mens with Kenny de Schepper: I presume he's Dutch, but he's actually French.
