Property developers and the death of non league football clubs

Added Trafford FC to my list of grounds visited. Bumper crowd of over 700 mainly youngsters who were all drinking cans of red stripe bought in the ground.
Decent game. Pleasantly surprised that this club were technology efficient. You could buy online(handling charge makes it more expensive) or cash or card at the turnstile. Not many non league clubs do that...

Added Buxton yesterday to the list. Excellent set up. Decent facilities, bar, food. Well supported club and noisy fans. Plastic pitch and music list from way back were only downfall.
Buxton missed out on top spot with a hat full of players unavailable and gave away 2 late goals in a game they were comfortably winning.
Expect South Shields to win the NPL now...

Added Charnock Richard to the kit of ground. Nice club, tidy ground - one of the better ones in the NW Counties

FA Trophy today.
Unbeaten in 15 games, Southport play Solihull without star striker, Marcus Carver, who has signed for Hartlepool.

We should see some significantly higher crowds this weekend. Note non league crowds are generally much higher than pre covid

Wrexham paying silly money to bring players from League 1 to National League
300k last week for striker from AFC Wimbledon and another from Burton.

Their top two earners are on more money than the whole of the Southport squad...

Meanwhile Southport have sold two in the transfer window to EFL clubs. Marcus Carver to Hartlepool and Doug Tharme to Blackpool.

I don't normally comment on football as it really isn't my sport, but I grew up in Boreham Wood so have always kept half an eye on them and what happened this evening was truly remarkable. It was very emotional and I wish my Mum had lived long enough to see this as she loved her local club.

Boreham Wood are a top side. They are competing at the top of league with chairmen who have very deep pockets.
Not sure how Boreham wood survive. They have a very small spporter base and could only muster 1300 fans for their biggest ever match

I think this shows the standards are very high in Non League. We have seen a big gulf between National League and National League N, although Kiddy did our league proud on Sat (they are full time) nearly turning over West Ham

Boreham Wood have worked really hard to claw their way up the the non league pyramid. The club is well run and the Chairman and manager have committed themselves for years and are trying to do things the right way. Their problem is that the town is on the outskirts of London with excellent transport links so most football fans support Arsenal, Tottenham or Watford. I really hope this latest success and tv exposure will help them get more local supporters through the turnstiles.

 I am conflicted about the success of Boreham Wood, they survived COVID because of the way the National League carved up the support they had from government grants to their members effectively rewarding clubs with benefactors and penalising clubs with a robust business model.

The National League board made up predominantly of individuals who fund their clubs did not take into account income lost through gate receipts ie the basis of a sustainability and Boreham Wood who are the least sustainable got by far the biggest grant per fan. Non league football behind closed doors without fans is total nonsense. Dover who behaved as a business cutting their clothe accordingly & cancelling fixtures received an enormous fine & points deduction condemning them to relegation.

So looks like Stockport are virtually guaranteed promotion with Oldham and S****horpe almost certain to be relegated.
Dover, Weymouth and King's Lynn look like they are relegated with Kings Lynn likely to be in the North and the other 2 to the South

Oldham? It's looking a lot worse for them having lost 5 in a row, following a spell of 8 games unbeaten prior to that, but they are only 3 points adrift of Stevenage who themselves have only picked up 3 points from their last 9 matches (all draws), and Oldham have the slightly better goal difference - they also play each other next Saturday. Unless I'm missing an incoming points deduction, or an injury crisis or something?

Carlisle weren't looking great a few weeks ago, but after sacking their 2nd manager of the season, they brought back Paul Simpson and he subsequently won 5 of his 6 matches to pull well clear of the drop.

I'm looking at nipping over to Cammel Laird for a NWCL div 1 South - step 6. Just a fiver and another new ground
