Property developers and the death of non league football clubs

I've been to Sheppy Rd - it was a cup game a long time ago. Don't remember much other than they had crowd trouble at the previous matches.

Tividale looks a great place to spend a Saturday afternoon in the future perhaps when Wolves are on Sky a Sunday or a Monday night, you could probably squeeze a trip in when Wolves are @ home in the early or late Saturday games. Remember that? Saturday afternoon football.

Love the documentary, beautifully shot, great audio, really representative of the enormous work volunteers put into non league football, everybody doing something to get the match on and keep the club ticking over. Obviously got the sports scientist in to plan the half time snack selection.

No plastic pitch at Bromsgrove but last nights Vase game went on and Worcester won!!! 452 for an OUT OF TOWN WEDNESDAY Night (Bromsgrove is 13 miles from Worcester) step 5 game is absolutely cracking!!! Things were looking shakey in the afternoon but they got it on.

Generally dont see Vase gates like that until QFs. Cray hValley Papermill got 700 for home SF on a Sunday & nothing else was on in SE London.

Next up step 6 Atherstone Town (beat Malvern in an earlier round 10-0!!) Their Sheppy Rd ground has a capacity of 3.5K. Worryingly the council have approved planning permission for 44 houses.

Worcester could really do with a good Vase run bit like Canterbury City last year (Now really struggling!) to raise the clubs profile in the town they represent and hopefully will go back too in August for 2020/21 season. Lights Out last fan out of Worcester on the 8th of Feb.

Atherstone are the only step 6/ level 10 team left in the Vase. The rest are all level 9.

In the Trophy, level 8 Aveley are in, I think a couple have replays to navigate though.

I see in Coupe de France,  a team JS Saint Pierroise from Reunion Island has reached the last 32 , not sure that has ever happened before. It feels like a team from the Falklands reaching the FA Cup 4th round!

On the islands theme, I heard on Talksport and then read more about an Isle of Man team being formed and looking to join the North West Counties Football League (Step 6) for next season.

For many years in non league circles Dulwich Hamlet were better known for their inspirational openly gay totally committed fan commonly known as Dulwich Mishi. By no means an angel he had a tendency to call a spade a shovel but even then was worth listening to (sometimes) everything he did was focused on developing the club he loved, in turn he got an immense amount of enjoyment out of following Hamlet from 7-53.

He was interviewed at half time during the Carlisle game this year, I think the game was the pinnacle of his years of devotion. He was a recovering alcoholic having been abstinent for at least a decade and always out front selling 50:50 tickets even in the boozy days when Hamlet got gates of 200 he was the fanzine editor, club in the community officer and the clubs worst hooligan.

Unfortunately he beat the booze but eventually fell victim a diet of fast food passing away at the funeral of a fellow fan a couple of weeks back.

Guernsey are getting great crowds in Isthmian League SE (step 4) 1000 ish pop 63K. No local

competition for fans, with better facilities I can only see them growing, the challenge is players of sufficient quality to play step3

Augers well for Isle of Man pop 86K and Jersey 97K

Town heading 2nd after a 2 nil win at ebbsfleet.  Whew!

Barrow equal on points at top but have 3 matches in hand so a long way ahead really. Play bromley later and hope bromley can take a point off them.

Southport lose 6 on the bounce conceding 19 and scoring 3(all set pieces)
The manager will not be sacked as he is a director...
We were third going into these matches.

1-1 Draw at home to fellow struggler Chippenham, the gate was 3100! Obviously didnt miss me as I spent the afternoon watching Chippenham old boy Tyrone Mings help secure a point for Villa @ Brighton but did get a non league fix as parked at Lewis and popped in to their ground the dripping pan. Will definitely make a spring/summer trip back to catch a game.

Walked over the South Downs into Falmer for the game was allowed to take in my reusable water bottle by stewards as I promised not to throw it and I think my ordnance survey map disarmed them. Beautiful day to take in the South Downs and a decent result so happy days until Tuesday when Havant and Waterlooville come to the Hill and Watford go to VP.

Oooo the drama in non league football, its like a years worth of Stenders scripts in a week! Cray Valley PM have been accused of forcing Greenwich Borough out of their shared ground, they moved 3-4 miles away to Phoenix sports but struggled in step 5 and have just dropped out of the league. Greenwich at one point had enormous resources were sharing with Dartford and had Edgar Davids in the side... that backing appears to have walked away. Off the pitch in Nottinghamshire much worse things happened with a sister in law from Retford they are too depressing to mention.

From what I can see purely as someone who watches football at the stadium they were the main lease holders last year, the pitch was awful. CVPM have invested significantly in getting it to a point at which it is fit for purpose. Will see how it pans out. CVPM (5th) thumped second places Ashford 3-1. One of their best players has left for play off rivals Herne Bay (6th) scored on debut in their 2-0 win over FA Cup 2nd rounders Chichester City. One of 3 gates in the league over 300. Torn for choice on Tuesday night! Villa v Leicester, top of table Hastings v Herne Bay or 10 minute stroll to CVPM v VCD (local derby).

Earlier this season made a trip to Hastings v Herne Bay called off 45 minutes before KO as I walked in the ground, they also go again on Tuesday, the ground hopper in the NLP was there on the 11th for the game v Ramsgate (703 att) and gave it a mouth watering write up 8.5 for charm, so perhaps better in the daylight, but looked a massive stadia for step 4. Predicable Hamlet lost at Dartford, Steve King knows exactly what he is doing at this level.

Barrow drew and gap to Town is now 5 points with one game in hand. Still a chance for Town although top 3 and a decent run in Trophy would be a great season.
