non league football

Yes indeed.
Still a couple of huge fan bases left in the National League.
Southend and Carlisle spring to mind plus the likes of York, S****horpe and Hartlepool.

Having just got promoted to NPL premier, Widnes have folded...
Their plans for the new ground have been rejected by Halton Council and the owners are not prepared to fund losses going forward as they have little revenues, hiring the rugby ground.

Farsley also fold.
They elected to drop down to NCEL, but have withdrawn.
No ground, no money

Farsley Celtic gone under? That is a shame. I went to see them years ago as a lad in the FA Cup - they had the match moved to Elland Road as they expected big crowds. They played Tranmere and lost, the crowd was around 10000. I am going to say 1974 or 5, when I was around 9 and my Dad took me to exotic matches at Leeds, Anfield, York City as well, haha

Farsley is a strange one.
David Stockdale came and bought the club.
They elected to drop down a couple of divisions, so they could groundshare locally and then they suddenly withdraw.
Something sounds a bit odd.

I attended a fans forum at Southport on Friday night and the club was within days of being liquidated.
The owners were declared bankrupt, no money in the clubs coffers and 250k of debts - HMRC were about to wind them up.

A couple of property developers have stepped in and cleared the debts and within 3 months have re done the pitch, upgraded the catering facilities and built a new training ground with floodlights, a gym and changing rooms close to the ground.
New management team are very positive and after having five owners in 6 years, the future looks a lot brighter.

Plastic pitches are starting to become widescale in non league football.

In NLN - Merthyr, Buxton, Scarborough, Macclesfield, Marine, Bedford, Worksop and Oxford City

Going down a few steps it is similar proportions about 20-30%

I see Sporting Khalsa v Hereford FA Cup tie got abandoned due to racial abuse of the Sporting keeper.
Second time this has happened this season to the keeper.
The first was against Congleton, when the game was stopped for 5 mins. The Congleton fans were moved from behind the goal and play continued. The keeper was very upset for a long time....

Promising start! Do you think the property developers have the long term interests of the club at heart. Where is the ground relative to the town centre etc Worcester City as I know you know used to be 10 minute walk from the station 15 minutes at most past loads of nice pubs now out on a motorway junction admittedly a decent stadium (Worcester warriors) but no longer walkable and not a pub for miles

So I played football this weekend in an amateur league after 2 years out with injury. We played against the Bank of England 3rd team and one of the players was apparently commenting (just general conversation I believe) about playing at junior Wimbledon. Having been intrigued and now seen the team sheets (didnt recognise anyone) it turns out it was Oliver Golding. Cant tell you how he played (as I didnt recognise him) but Im slightly confused at the comment, as Im pretty sure he played at senior Wimbledon and did something quite a significant in junior tennis (did he win the US Open/reach the final?) so probably would have opened with that!

But I just thought it relevant to mention on this forum in case anyone was interested. The match ended a 1-1 draw. We battered em!

Please move if he has an individual thread. I couldnt find it but assume he does have one.

Went to my first ever women's match today, Wolves vs Flyde which is a top of the table clash in the 3rd tier. Enjoyed it although finished 0-0 there was a lot of chances. Nice to just park outside and stroll up and pay cash.

Saw a star in the future in Flyde keeper Khiara Keating, on loan from Man City. Only 17, one shot was heading for the top corner not only did she save it but actually caught with a superman dive, amazing. Her handling was perfect and has a massive kick. Will be playing for England in a few years I'm sure.

Khiara made her England debut today.

And I've been to about 80 Wolves matches since!
