Beth has won her Q1 match very handily against a higher ranked player. Plays a yet higher ranked player in FQR tomorrow. A tough match agains a former top 200 player.

Well, not much clay style tennis was played, and Beth seemed rather unfamiliar with the surface, and could not find a solution to Shaptava's high bouncing shots that she frequently had to take above shoulder-height, and never looked comfortable in so doing.

Well Beth does admut to being vertically challenged ! But I thought she has had a fair bit of clay court experience, so I am surprised tht she had trouble today. Mind you her record on clay last year wasn't very good only W1/L4
After 10 months out with a torn cruciate ligament, Laura Siegemund returned to action here today, with a tidy straight sets win
All being well, it looks like she will get to defend her Stuttgart crown, after all.
