Nishikori has drawn novikov for the second week running. Be interesting to see if he improves

And they may yet be another Brit in the doubles draw:

QR1:  (qWC) Arnau Dachs (ESP) & Michael Nott UNR defeated (q2) John Paul Fruttero & Thai-Son Kwiatkowski (USA/USA) CR 1484 (1054+430) by 7-6(5) 4-6 [10-7]

That's some scalp for the boys, who are both in their mid-20s:  JPF may be 36, like Roger the Lodger, but he has a CH of 183 from November 2005.  Mind you, their opponents in the FQR took out the q2s...

FQR:  Iņigo Cervantes & Guillermo Olaso (ESP/ESP) CR 1124 (270+1354) vs (qWC) Arnau Dachs (ESP) & Michael Nott UNR

They'll play the second seeds in the first round of the main draw, if they qualify.

For what it's worth, nishikori reversed last week's loss to novikov with a straight sets win tonight.

What's the link there for Joe to have bagged such a great partner?

I saw a link on twitter that gave a few highlights from the MTB - I'll see if I can find it again and post it. Worth watching.

Edit - not sure if you will be able to see this if you don't have a twitter account

Looks like Joe needs a W here in Dallas to retain top 100 place, although that W would lift him to mid 90's.

Moving up the Doubles rankings at Challenger level seems such a hard slog, a good week often doesnt get the player too many places; 250 level is the same, a 250 win for Dom for example would only see him rise a few places as well.

Yes, but it is very variable with often clustering at some points and gaps at others and sometimes from week to week you actually move a few places without your points changing at all, but others changing. Say with Dom, he is WR 46 on 1595, there is then a 120 point gap to WR 45 on 1715, and another 115 points takes you all the way up to WR 37 on 1830, effectively where Dom would go to just now if you added 250 points. In this case 9 places at that level for 250 points seems to me a pretty good move up with the 8 places move from WR 45 to WR 37 for just 115 points actually being a lot of places relative to the points. But as I say pretty variable at different times and positions. You can have big gaps or clusters both ahead and behind you.

With Joe this week, he is defending the Dallas title ( with David O'Hare last year ). He is WR 96. Live rank shows him now as live ranked 105 ( he would still have been live ranked 105 even if he had gone out in R1 since he could have subbed in a 15 point non counter ) and at the moment down a net 87 points, but looking to be back about where he started the week at WR 95 / 96 if he retains the title, so the title is having about a 10 place effect. I notice that the Dallas title points are 100 this year as against 105 last year but that's not greatly here nor there.

It was 105 as they qualified last year.
