Here's hoping Heather can use the extra matchcourt time afforded by these qualies to find her best game :)
A repeat of her 2015 title win would be nice...
QR1: Heather WATSON (GBR) [q1] 75 defeated Kimberly BIRRELL (AUS) 348 6-3 6-2
To play the winner of Hibino/Elie, which is just moving into the third set, for a place in the MD.
I notice that Naiktha Bains just defeated WR105, Ana Bogdan, to also make it through to the FQR. Congratulations to her.

Got to be happy with a straight sets win but not perfect. Needs to up her 1st service percentage (only 59%), but also I find it encouraging that she saved 7 break points! She'll play Nao Hibino next, who surprisingly took just under 2.5 hours to beat Jennifer Elie - quite surprising really.
They haven't met before but Hibino has some decent scalps from last year. She beat Bellis at the US Open and reached a tour final at the WTA International in Nanchang. Won't be an easy ride, but would still expect Hev to get through
Serve worked fractionally harder in set 2, Hev found a way to eke out a few more points, 4-6 7-5
Heather leads by one total point through the first two sets; all to play for; nails rapidly disappearing...
