I was wondering whether anyone knows any way of getting hold of Margaret Court's new biography, which was released just over a year ago. As far as I know her new book is just that and is not a re-print of her original autobiography, which was completed over 20 years ago.
It seems like McMillan Australia have complete control over the sales, but there hasn't been any release at all over here in the UK and even the British Library could not find me a copy to read, even if I paid them to do so.
I did think of importing it, but the costs are huge and I am not exactly loaded.
I thought I'd post this in case anybody knows of any supplier here. I also think it is interesting that the woman who holds the Grand Slam record for the most singles titles, and most Grand Slam titles in a career does not have a UK release for her book - kind of shocking I think. I know she fails the political correctness tests.... but nonetheless.
Her overall match win percentage is about 90% for Grand Slams I think, and no matter what heights other great players such as Serena, Steffi and Martina have hit, I don't think anyone will dominate an era again in quite the way she did, which is why I think she is so fascinating - no male player either, comes close to her win percentage.
I think I would disagree with her over politics, religion and gay rights, but I still think it would be fascinating to read the story of someone who was so successful, and the fact that the book is written so long after she has retired, will maybe make it better - sometimes time makes reflections more clear and precise. Anyhow if anyone knows how to get hold of a copy cheaply, I'll be grateful to hear how. Failing all else, I should be travelling in Australia in 2020 and can hopefully find a new or used copy then.
Incidentally, there's an interesting, discussion about Margaret Court, her legacy, all the good things her Ministry currently does, and the friction between her and her American contemporaries about differing positions on social issues, in the current edition of NCR podcast during a conversation with former pro and longtime NBC correspondent, the very entertaining Mary Carillo. A more balanced and nuanced examination than I had expected: http://nochallengesremaining.podbean.com/e/episode-200-mary-carillo/

Be interesting if tennis player went out of the Aus Open because they were scheduled to play on on MC Arena and refused to play on it. Expecially if it were an Aussie player.
I'm hoping for it to happen, we always need some drama and politics at the AO to start the tennis year off on the right foot and set the tone.
