RE: British Tour 2018

Well that's an incredible win for Nell. Maybe only British Tour, but to beat Freya and Tara en route to the title, whatever condition they are in, is amazingly impressive! smile

Nell also won the 2017 British Tour Masters in December-having got an alternate place. Current rate of progress will see her in Grand Slams before she sets off for Texas!

With Billy Harris losing to unseeded Nico R, and Tara and Freya losing to unseeded Nell, that's a truly 'tennis' start to the year....

Big congrats to Nell (and to Jack F-H)

And that gives both of them a MD wildcard into a British 15k (which are rarer than hen's teeth, especially for women, so good luck with that but you never know.....)

It looks like Nell missed 6 months in 2017. Seems to have had a few outings in seniors in 2015, played mainly Juniors in 2016, and has played a bit of both in 2017. I suspect it might be mainly British Tour and some GB ITF qualies this year, if she is studying though.

Thanks for info. Yes, be nice to try some 15K qualies. Ah ...

They have actually updated the women's wild card rules to $25k's - I quote...

Women:

Winner of 2 LTA British Tour Premier events in 2018 will receive a wild card into the main draw of a LTA GB Pro-Series tournament ($25k) within a 12 month period- to be determined by the LTA Womens Performance Team.

Winner of 1 LTA British Tour Premier event, or 2 Tier 1 events in 2018 will receive a wild card into the qualifying draw of a womens LTA GB Pro-Series tournament ($25k) within a 12 month period - to be determined by the LTA Womens Performance Team

If a player wins 3 LTA British Tour Tier 2 events during 2018 they will receive a wild card into the qualifying draw of a womens LTA GB Pro-Series tournament ($25k) within a 12 month period - to be determined by the LTA Womens Performance Team.

Players need to make a timely request to the appropriate person in the LTA Womens Performance Team. Which event the wild card is awarded, is at the discretion of the LTA Womens Performance Team.

Also, the winner of the North Oxford premier tier event in May will get the wild card into the Wimbledon Wild Card playoffs.
I was hoping they'd switch that back to Felixstowe this year, so I could go a few times.

Ha, I was going to say that the women's British 15K prize was a tad difficult to take up !!! I believe that there remain literally none on this year's schedule. In women's 25Ks even qualifying has tended to be two qualifying rounds and QR1 pitching low ranked and unranked Brits against very decently ranked seeded players. No stepping stones here ...

Anyway, much comment with appropriate adjectives regarding the home ITF situation can be found elsewhere.

I saw Nell play at the Wirral and she would have beaten Remondina if she hadn't played 8 days on the trot and some long matches.

I would say Nell could easily get down to 600-700 in her first full season and sub 500 short term.

Second week running that Kira has retired. Hope she's not playing when she shouldn't be. At least she isn't listed for Bath next week any more.

Freya easily beat Lily at Wirral and Olivia Elliott is a similar standard, so no suprise.

Good to see Freya finding her groove. She seemed to be getting something back in the last few months of 2017. Very little to defend first half of 2018 so the only way is up.

I rather agree with paulisi that the result is maybe more a reflection of Olivia's level.

Obviously good for Freya's confidence to win, and easily, but I'm not sure it says all that much about where her game is as a WR 600 player.

At the Tier 1 event in Bath, Millie Bissett lost to Danielle Daley and Bella Moen lost to Erika Batista Dodridge, but nice to see the youngsters taking part.

QF line-up

Alicia Barnett v (q) Maria Budin
Megan Forster v Sasha Hill
Sophie Clark v Ella Taylor
K Bejenaru v Danielle Daley

In the women, Alicia is through to the final, beating Sasha is the semis.

In the other semi, Ella defeated the WTA ranked Roumanian player, Bejenaru (currently 1005, ex 746)
