Quite good this week

We currently have winning records against some surprising nations, and losing ones against unsurprising ones, too.
We were also terrible last year against the Czech's & Swiss in particular.

Selected Nations GB overall match records:

The numbers of matches, wins and losses against the States are all the highest marks so far this year against any nation.

Small excerpt from my 'Activity Tracker' recording the outcomes week-by-week of every GB player

Qualies in greys, MD in blues, darker = further in tournament - the golds are very good

Freya is struggling to get going nearly as much as Heather is, even if Heather had Hobart to flatter and deceive. Can't imagine Jo's line looks very good either.. or Naomi's.

Do you have lines like that for the top 10, blob? That would be interesting to see. Well top 9 anyway since #10 hasn't actually played this year.

I have a line for all 100+ players that played a match in 2017-18
It's not linked to their ranking or GB Ranking though. It's not justa case of copy paste either, as the text and the colour coding is automated by formula and conditional format, that doesnt copy easily, but I'll see if I can isolate them.

Oh ok I see. Yes I saw from the above excerpt that they are ordered by first name alphabetical order.

I am more pleased with this formula than anything I have ever done in Excel: =INDEX(NameMatrix[Full Name],MATCH(INDEX(GB2018RankingDataMatrix[Player],SUMPRODUCT(--(GB2018RankingDataMatrix[GB RANK]=ROW()-2),--(GB2018RankingDataMatrix[Date]=MAX(GB2018RankingDataMatrix[Date])),--(GB2018RankingDataMatrix[Reverse])),0),NameMatrix[WTA Format],0),0)

Because it works, and automates this:

2018 YTD Schedules played and results achieved per week for the current GB top 10

And it tells a fascinating story too. The slide into decline of Naomi in particular, but in general the contrast between the nothing seasons so far of the top 4 there (and Katie B is of course only still #4 by virtue of it taking another week till the rankings change) compared with the achievements of the next 4. 5-8 there have of course yet to step up to the levels 1-4 have been trying to compete at, and therein will hang much of the interesting stories of the rest of this year, as to whether any of them can make the step up with any success... and of course whether there are changes in the fortunes of those competing on the WTA rather than the ITF tour.... But it's set up enticingly for sure.

Yes, know what you mean relatively speaking though early doors this year at WTA level Jo still reached a Premier QF and Hev an International SF with the points that come with these. Naomi is boosted in the race by her WTA 125 SF and QF late last year and yes is very lacking points this year so far.

Our race leaders on 19/03 will be :

1. Jo 341
2. Gabi 215
3. Heather 168
4. Naomi 128
5. Katy D 124
6. Harriet 95
7. Laura 74
8. Maia 51

GB top 10 Positional rankings remain unchanged during Indian Wells.

Even if we win no matches in week 11, we'll still be winning more matches per entry than compared to the same stage in 2018, and continue to have a ratio above 1.000 on the year.

Santa Margherita Di Pula now in - to compare the Clay $25K against those for hard courts; by far the most hotly contested $25K of the week. Is that the surface or the location driving that? A bit of both? Coming weeks should provide the context.

Also, with SMdP being the first European Clay $25K of the year, we can see the premium in Europe compared to the global $25K so far this year.
Yes, players may be looking for some time on the devil dust for the first time this year, as the clay season begins in earnest, but that's still a big rise in quality for the European debut of the dirt. Whilst the PM on Hard courts are ongoing, and good players will want to still be playing in some capacity in Miami - or I would have thought so.

Finally, a better look in context at how soft the $25K in Gwalior this week is, compared to all other $25K in 2018, and the general ranking of this weeks events compared to everything thus far:

Rank of each of the Top 10 GB women over time: August 1984 - September 2017

Cm6rIvm.png

Raw data courtesy of Jeff Sackmann of TennisAbstract http://www.tennisabstract.com/

There are about 20 weeks with missing/partial data in the 30+ years - the sudden, very long down spikes are those. It looks as though the source data cull cut off on various occasions in the raw data. But what a great data set Thanks to Jeff for his generosity in sharing it.
May tidy this up and do something with it to compare it to current day (and add in the missing weeks up to the present).
My computer took 12 hours to process the several million rows of data though, so probably not.

Sounds like u need a heavy server there to do all your processing! winkconfuse

It is a great data set though and shows some very interesting trends...
