Random Charts & Nonsense

From blob's last post

"Final post, cheers." and "Done."

Didn't think anything of it at the time, but I hope that wasn't a goodbye. I too really miss those charts, and they were becoming more and more fascinating.
Have the admin got any contact details ?

I saw those  at the time but assumed they were about the charts and not a "goodbye" but that seems more likely now. Gosh. It doesnt sound like any angst but Blob seemed to like it here and not give the impression of any angst on the board or in real life. I hope he is ok, wish him well if he is reading this.

Aye but you can take it in the context of a final chart in the post which is maybe why nobody noticed at first

Oh dear, he will certainly be much missed crycrycrycry

I did notice all those posts, and read his remarks... but he had just posted a whole heap of tables, so read 'final post' rather as 'final update post for now.' And because sometimes his posts don't attract too many remarks - it's hard to absorb it all and remark, but we all used to read them - I made sure to acknowledge his chart posts soon after he made them. But it seems clear now he was already going/ gone, since his profile was deleted the same day he posted these. Unfortunately he did remark once that his health was poor.. so only hope he has perhaps gone to do something more beneficial to it... but.....disbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbelief

I also think blob might have thought the tables and charts were consuming too much of his time, and with him it was either all or nothing...

It's strange because two other posters that did great things with stats and charts were insomniac folder and aliblahblah and I'm sure they both left for health reasons. Abb seems to have popped up recently once or twice, I wish them all well and hope their health is better.

I too hope blob is ok - very sad. He did get upset a couple of weeks ago about the amount of press coverage and support Dan was getting in comparison to Anna who had just reached her wta doubles final and was pretty much ignored! Blob was so supportive of women's tennis - thank you blob (shame, i don't even know your real name!). wishing you well blob in whatever you do :)

Yes, while I didn't think Evo was a good comparative example, blob's general support for women's tennis has been great and I hope he ( seems agreed a "he" ) appreciated that the perhaps lack of support then was re the counter example rather than the general sentiment. Though he has pushed the balance of coverage issue previously with better examples.

Some strong opinions, very informative, much appreciated ( if often quietly ) and much missed on here.

Some nonsense from me whilst I melt in the heatwave, unable to sleep:

2017-2018 all GB ranked positions - track the player in each position week-by-week.
You can use the GB Rank slider to look at each rank in turn.
You can also hover over any little symbol to see more detail.
The player list and colour key refreshes each time you change the rank.

I had an interesting 5 minutes looking at some of the more competitive ranks - i.e. GB #1 has been boringly predictable in 2017-18, but, say, GB #6...

Best viewed on as big a screen as possible

Oh wow, these are fun ABB, and as you say, such an amazing range in the cast of characters in those GB 6-9 positions!

Good job!
I had been thinking about doing something when blob left. It never occurred to me to use tableau and I use it a lot for work. Doh!

A little quiz:
Of our currently ranked players, on the day they first achieved their respective professional rankings, who was:
a) the youngest?
b) the oldest?

Answers 'soon' when I finish the viz upon whihch the quiz is based.
Kudos points +5 to anyone getting a correct answer.
Kudos points +50 to anyone getting both.
